Won't win any engineering awards,

I got this carry case per Amazon's recommendation to go with the Singer 6038 machine. While it's functional, it's very basic and doesn't allow the machine to be integrated into it like the case I have for my old White - you have to remove the machine from this case to use it. Also, the pedal for the machine I bought has to be shoved between the arm and the needle in order to get the case closed, which worries me. The fit is poor - it's a slightly protective dust cover and carrying case and not much else. Now that I think about it, it's not even that comfortable to carry (and down it goes from 3 to 2 stars) - it was a poor engineer who decided to make the underside of the handle (you know, where all the weight presses on your fingers) a bunch of thin ribs of plastic. So instead of hanging on to a nice solid surface, you're gripping this things that's trying to bluntly slice your fingers into 1/8 inch strips. Sure, it's strong, but it's exceedingly uncomfortable to carry any distance. I'll have to wrap mine with some padded vinyl or somesuch. In short, it does the job, but not especially well.

Not that great..,

I agree with other purchasers of this case..best use is as a dust cover, not a carrying case. It's hard to close..trying to fit the lid into the flimsy grooves on the bottom is a pain and it's very thin. I was worried the sewing machine would fall out while walking as it slides around inside. I purchased it for my daughter so it served it's purpose as her first sewing machine and case but I wish cases were still made like the fitted one on my old Burnina. Now that sturdy, fitting case was what I'd call quality! You could just remove the top and sew, it fit the sewing machine perfectly and even had storage in the bottom. This cheap thing should have been given free with purchase of a sewing machine.

Because new sewing machines don't have carrying cases...,

Surprise surprise! Welcome to the 21st Century, where there are 400 channels of TV, sheep and cats are cloned and sewing machines now come without carrying cases. What? !!! You say, you just spent $$$ on a machine and it has no case? Yep. Apparently the manufacturers of many sewing machines don't feel that they ought to kick in the extra few bucks it must cost include a case. Boo. I don't need to tell anyone who sews that dust is NOT something you want in your machine. Plus, many people like to pack up their machine and take them to classes, quilting clubs, up and down stairs, well, you get the point. So here's a generic case that should have come with your new machine but didn't. That's why I give this carrying case 4 stars, because you had to pony up for this instead of having it included. I also docked a star because it is the usual putty beige color, which is getting pretty tiresome. Who decreed that all computers and electronics should be clothed in a dirty vanilla color? Oh well.

Unlike the old cases where the machine snugly fits inside and the lid over it, This is an inexpensive piece of plastic with latches on the sides. The machine just sits on a plastic grid bottom with nothing to cradle or hold it in, so it can bounce around inside when walking or if tipped over. As for walking with it, the handle in strangely and cheaply made. There are ridges for grips, but they don't work well since they are raised ridges which dent your fingers when you hold it, due to the weight of the machine. If you're moving it in a short distance (across a room) then you're not holding it long enough to hurt your fingers. Hmm, can't find much good about it, except it is a good dust cover. Why would Singer make such nice machines and skimp on the carrying case? It is the type of quality that would be given away at no charge, with the purchase of a machine.

An Engineer Says: Good, UNTIL IT BROKE,

UPDATE: THIS CASE BROKE ON THE BOTTOM DOWN BY THE CLASP. NOT SO HAPPY ANYMORE!!!!! I'd rerate if I could....
Im an engineer, who is pretty practical. That's redundant. Anyway, just 02/2005 ordered the model 611 and the issue with the handles is NOT an issue, they seem to have redone the bottom of the handle. The lid fits on the bottom in a snap, not sure what people were griping about. Yes, it's thin, but sufficient. The buckles are the sturdy metal loop kind, not plastic. I'm very pleased with the purchase. Fits my wife's Husqvarna Viking 210 with plenty of room to spare. I checked ebay and other sites, and this is the best solution for the money, easily.

How to Protect my Machine,

My machine did not come with a sewing case and since I have very little kids, I needed something so that I could protect my machine when it was out and so I could store it when not in use or put it in the car and take it to sewing classes. This is a very nice case, very lightweight,(my 1 year old picks it up and carries over his head, empty) lots of room.Until I saw this case I had a plastic cover on my sewing machine to keep the dust off and guess what that does not work at all. You will be very happy with this case.

Great Case for the Money!,

After reading all the reviews - pro and con - I still decided to order this case for my new sewing machine. I figured if nothing else it would keep the dust off my machine. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It is NOT flimsy or light weight as others have described. It is a nice, thick plastic with firm clips on each side that lock easily and tightly. The top fits easily into the the bottom and closes without any problems. My machine isn't super heavy - but it isn't light either. I am not worried about carry it around using the handle on this case. It is roomy and worth every cent. I am more than pleased with this purchase.

Got my wife the Singer 6038 as a birhday present.Unfortunately it did not come with the carrying case. Thankfully Amazon solves all my problems. I found this Singer universal carrying case and I bought it. Great product, very durable and the finishing is as good though I would've preferred if Singer had their emblem or sign on the case.In any case,I highly recommend the product. It redefines the term VALUE FOR MONEY.

Concerned,

Although I received all 3 of the sewing cases on Nov 8,2002. I have recieved concerned emails from Amazon telling me that they don't know when they will be delivered. Which is very refreshing in this it'll get there world. The cases are made alot better than I expected. I've had 2 other machines with cases which didn't come close to this one. The last machine didn't come with a case so I've been putting it back into the original packaging. My 2 daughters both wanted a sewing machine this Christmas. I looked at other cases personally which didn't measure up to this one. With the savings I figured I'd get mine out of the packing box finally. Thank you, Amazon.
