This dress form is very convenient. The multiple dials give you a lot of control in getting the right measurements, and the fabric-covered surface lets you pin materials to the form.

However, there is one major drawback. You can't use the form to create tight-fitting tops or dresses, because the chest shape is not true to life! In real life, breast width transitions gradually from top to bottom, but at the bottom it cuts sharply in where the breast ends and the rib cage begins (under the cup). On this dress form though, the breasts thin out gradually on the underside as well, making the ribcage in that area disproportionately wide. With the waist and breast measurements set exactly to my own, it is *impossible* to even put my bra on the form!

It would be great for loose shirts and dresses, but keep in mind that the chest area is messed up.

At least for me, this dress form fits almost perfectly - literally every measurement is "spot on"...makes this very easy to use. Perhaps is not the most sturdy unit but being new, I have little to compare it with - dials are simple to use, settings all adjust easily. Very affordable, entry level dress form - great starter unit for beginners such as myself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy, September 1, 2009
This review is from: SINGER DF150G Adjustable Dress Form, Gray, Medium (Kitchen)
I am still glad that I now have this dress form, and had trouble finding other options in my price range, however there are some problems with this one. The height adjustment like others have said is tricky... the whole thing can come sliding down on you and might pinch your fingers so you have to be careful. It is actually best to make that a 2-person job. Fortunately you don't need to adjust that every time. The hemming arm is basically useless. This is frustrating because I don't think it would cost much more for them to make this better. It will not stay where you set it. I am going to go to the hardware store tonight and try to find some way to rig it up better. (I think I can get some sort of clamp to place under the ring.)
My suggestion to them would be to make holes in the pole about every 1/2 or 1/4 of an inch and then use a pin to hold the hemming arm in place. This would not likely cost more money for them to manufacture. Granted it wouldn't be infinitely variable but that would meet most people's needs. And it would actually stay in place.
The instructions are very incomplete.
I didn't have trouble setting the size as some people say they have. You have to just be careful and make sure that you are opening all the dials evenly. When you take it out of the box it is at the smallest setting, so if you have to open a part of it out to the largest setting, open each dial about 1/2 way out and then go back around and open the rest of the way.
I also think I am going to attach the base to a piece of wood, so that it will be less likely to tip over. I would worry about a child tipping it over.
So in conclusion, some of the construction is dissappointing, but if you don't mind making some modifications on your own it is worth getting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daughter Loves it....Great for beginners - Price just right for value!, August 31, 2009

This review is from: SINGER DF150G Adjustable Dress Form, Gray, Medium (Kitchen)
I purchased this for my 16 year old daughter who loves to sew. She started making a few outfits for her friends and herself and needed a Dress Form to help with the waist and bust sizing. Out of the box this is a neat little item to have in your sewing room. It is perfect for beginners and the adjustable forms makes it easy to design for several different sizes.

Disapointed in that it is a little wobbly... but hey for the price we paid here at Amazon I am not complaining.... I searched all over the internet for a good dress form and most run $500 and up for the same quality as this one... and other can be as expensive as $2000 so if you are looking for a excellent little dress form that does not need commercial use... only HOME use then this would be great for you....

My daughter loves hers! Any she makes the cutest little clothes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a home seamstress, November 7, 2010

This review is from: SINGER DF150G Adjustable Dress Form, Gray, Medium (Kitchen)
I did not experience some of the assembly issues that people have mentioned on various blogs about this product. It went together easily and stayed in position when adjusted. Unfortunately I had to pad it with some foam (so sad) as I do not have the hour glass figure that this lovely lady has, even with the dial adjustments. One other comment, and nothing that can be changed in a dressform at this price, she has perky boobies which cannot be lowered !! Mature ladies hardly have that issue. I devised some plastic bags with fiber fill and taped them at a more realistic position and pretty much ignore hers. After all the padding adjustments I just slipped a tight white cotton Tshirt in place over it all and I fit over that. (I don't make form fitting spandex clothes so it doesn't matter anyway.) I have always wanted a dressform and I really like to be able to work on her rather than to look in a mirror and try to pin on myself. It has coaxed me back in to sewing for myself (as well as the store prices for ready made.) I think this is a very good price and good quality for a moderate home sewers fitting tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, easy to move, lightweight, holds clothes well!, March 16, 2011

I don't know why so many people are complaining. I got this item and find that it works for its purpose. Its lightweight and easy to move around. The setting make it easy to adjust to my measurements. I also use it with a black turtle neck over it, to take pics of my garments for ebay use. Its well worth the money and I'm not a novice at sewing, been doing it for 25 years. Its a good deal. I also add pads to the bust in order to adjust to my specific bust line. I read that a few women have complained about the bust. This is not a custom dress form ladies. Put your own bra on it, and then stuff it so it matches your chest size and look. Simple solutions!

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Good Product, August 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SINGER DF150G Adjustable Dress Form, Gray, Medium (Kitchen)
I'm writing this review for my Mom. She has been sewing for more than 30+ years, and always wanted one of these dress forms. Let's start with the good: She loves the fact that she can pin fabric directly onto the form. It can adjust height pretty high. There are 4 dials for each measurement (bust, waist and hips), which seem confusing at first but actually it's good for people with not so symmetric measurements. Now the not-so-good: The hem gauge does not work efficiently since it does not tightly stay put. The neckline dial is sort of confusing since it has no measurements. To adjust the height, you need two people to do it so the dress form does not fall on your hands. Overall, this is a pretty good product for sewing beginners, but probably a more experienced sewer would not have much use for it, other than just seeing how the dress looks on the form and present it to clients.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works well for me, December 12, 2009

I was pleasantly surprised by how easily this adjusted to my exact size. The cloth covering is easy to pin. It was easy to set up. It is rather flimsy. But given the price, this was no surprise. The whole piece is somewhat awkward to move since there are no casters or wheels on the stand. But overall, I am pleased. So far, it has enabled me to easily alter several ill-fitting dresses and skirts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!, September 30, 2010
This review is from: SINGER DF150G Adjustable Dress Form, Gray, Medium (Kitchen)
I admit it's a bit light weight and chincey for the price. But have you seen how much nice ones cost! My big problem was back/waist length. If you are tall or have a ridiculously long torso this is the only one I found to have a back/waist measurement of anywhere close to 21"!

I figured out the correct way to put on the hem marker and that seems to work fine now. So the only real problem is that the pole height adjustment is almost a little short, and it is too loose. So the thing slides down pretty easy. I plan on first trying duck tape, then having my farmer husband fix it for me or make a new stand. Not so bad.

I am very pleased with this dress form. It's very easy to use. I bought a small because I plan to put extra padding on it to more customize it and make it easier to use pins. It's easy to adjust and seems very stable. (I had a form of another brand a few years ago and the legs kept coming off and even when they were on, the form would still fall over if I had heavy fabric on it). The only problem is that the little hemming gizmo doesn't work very well. It won't stay in place on the stand and keeps sliding down.
