5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative Game, Classic Quality, January 19, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: SIXTEEN CARD GAME (Toy)
Impressions: This game surprised me. I have never heard of it, and the packaging graphics didn't scream "buy me." But what this game might lack in splash, it more than makes up for in quality...it's one of the best new card games I've played in a long time. Many card games these days have little or no strategy, are printed on flimsy paper, and are boring after one day of playing them. My 6 yr old son was able to play this game, even without understanding the strategy intricacies. My wife and I agree that it is engaging enough to merit a spot on our primary game shelf.

Pros: The product description above is accurate. The goal is to play through the whole deck, and win the most tricks (sets) in the process. Play alternates, and tricks are won by bringing the total of the cards in the discard pile to 16 (or over, which is a "bust"), by playing three of the same color card in a row, or playing three of the same number card in a row. The instructions are quite simple, but some engaging strategy becomes apparent after playing only a few games, such as the benefit of keeping a diversity of cards in your hand, and working to hit certain totals in the discard pile. It's all a bit difficult to describe here, but the combination of simplicity and strategy is something like a food that is both sweet and salty..a good thing in my opinion.

Cons: Card quality is high (thick cards that will last a long time), but graphics are a bit plain. This does not at all affect the mechanics of play, but it would be nice if it was a bit spicier. Also, the colors on the cards can be hard to distinguish under poor lighting, and may be impossible to distinguish by colorblind players. This could be remedied by adding different patterns to the respective colors.

Summary: This game plays great and is fun for all ages. My guess is that in 30 years, we will have labeled it as a "classic," like Uno, Rook, and similar games.

Great fun for two players. Strategy, not just luck. Great for adults and older kids. Easy to learn, but not so easy to consistently win!

This card game is FUN, educational, compact, engaging, and durable. Multi-generations enjoy it - school age, adult, seniors. It moves fast, and doesn't lag to ho-hum.
