I used version 5.5 of Web Editor and it was pretty good. But I've had nothing but problems with this version.

WebEditor is a fine tool bundled with good utilities and very good content such as themes that are better than MSFrontpage. If you are more than a beginner when it comes to web authoring or are a quick learner, this is an excellent product at a great price. If you are a novice or want a simple tool to throw up webpages then MSfrontpage *hosted on a server with MSFrontpage server extensions* is an easier tool to use. If you don't have a server with MSFP extensions, then this is a better tool then MSFP which is not too flexible without the extensions.

The tool is very well execute. Although you may miss some of Microsoft's ease-of-use features, it is well organized and, at many things, better than MS frontpage. It also comes with a real manual instead of the lame manual-let that MSFP comes with (plan on paying another $40+ for a decent MSFP manual if you buy that tool.)

I've come across a few crashes but overall, the tool is quite stable for a *.0 rev.

I purchased this tool in order to create a school website that would be hosted on a server without MSFP extensions. I liked it so much that I switched my home page to it and have no plans to ever use MSFP again.

If you want more power with a tad less ease of use than MSFP and at a much better price, this is the tool get.

Marc

I used version 5.5 of Web Editor and it was pretty good. But I've had nothing but problems with this version.

*The typing sometimes won't wordwrap - for reasons I can't figure out.

*The words will scrunch together for unknown reasons. For instance, "I am happy" will appear as "Iamhappy". Fix it, and the problem comes back -- more bugs.

*The spell checker won't spot all the mispelled words.

* Publishing to the site is uneven. On some sites it works fine, while on others it won't let you view the files on the web host (haven't the faintest idea why.)

Using this program was such a royal pain, I finally gave up and switched to FUSION 8 - FUSION worked like a charm.

2.0 out of 5 stars SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite, March 23, 2005
This review is from: SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite (CD-ROM)
I have been using this software for nearly a year and have gotten it to work for me - for the most part. I had never heard of this software or company before and got it for free in a packaged deal from the company I use for web hosting (www.inmotionhosting.com).

Like most any piece of software, it takes some time to get used to using it and finding more features. I am now at a point with two web sites that I am comfortable with the software and how the web sites look and work - for the most part.

Like most any software, there are going to be limitations in what a user can do with it - even when knowing the product inside and out. SJ Namo 6 definitely has its short-comings and getting help from the parent company has been oh-for-23 in my case - they simply do not respond to my queries! When I ask inmotionhosting about the problems - I'm told this is not their software and that any questions should be directed to the parent company of the product.

Nice!

I've stuck with this software because it really does work for me - for the most part. The alternatives are other "cheapy" software packages which I'm sure will have their own nuiances. Or learn more of Dreamweaver - NOT!

I've taken three courses in Dreamweaver, spent more than 100 hours on tutorials and practice sessions and even use it at work on an almost daily basis. Because I know Dreamweaver this well, and that it is rather difficult to do the simple things I want from a web design package, and because I don't have the time to go through a 500 page manual, spend countless hours on the help sites, etc., etc......I wouldn't even consider it for my own personal or business web site. Bottom line with Dreamweaver is that it is just to complex for the beginning and possibly intermediate web designer. You may say that it only takes some getting use to and that I'm contradicting my own earlier statement. NOT! Because I use Dreamweaver so much, I know the limitations and problems and the high cost of software that goes with it.

Another alternative is MS FrontPage. Like many people, I use less and less products from Microsoft because of the problems, attacks, viruses, etc., etc. FrontPage and its extensions and all the other "features" don't even make this a consideration for me.

So, back to the original review and SJ Namo - Amazon is selling it for $40 - not a bad deal in my opinion. I'd say that anyone who is starting out in web design or someone who requires less "bells & whistles" should consider this product as an option. Unless it has changed since I got the software - this product at least comes with the manual - unlike Dreamweaver or FrontPage (both have online help (so does Namo) and both require seperate purchases for the manual).

Good luck in your ventures!

I purchased this software after reading fairly positive reviews. I have little experience with web page design so this looked like the right fit. Well, it's easy enough to use for the most part but forget it if you have a problem with the software. The customer service is non-existent. You can't call because their offices are in Korea and I am also unable to connect to their customer service to ask a question via email. I can not get the software to work and I can't use it. If you are considering this software, better think twice and buy something that has some support -- this is a huge waste of money.

I have created a number of sites using this product. They look very professional, even thought I am not a professional web developer. Well, that is the whole point! It is easy to install, easy to create web sites using site wizard, easy to choose themes, easy to CHANGE themes, has a wysiwyg editor, easy site upload and sync. I was able to easily define the site structure. It easily picks up files in the folder hierarchy, created by other applications ~ like jAlbum that I used to create photo albums. It has never crashed on me so far. I have used WebEditor 5.5 and upgraded to 6.0. Version 6.0 has scripting tool and excellent web-board. I have hosted some silly family forums there too. It also comes bundled with a number of powerful utilities. Checkout their website for detailed feature list.

5.0 out of 5 stars complex - because it offers a lot, November 21, 2004
This review is from: SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite (CD-ROM)
As an absoute beginner it took me a weekend to get a good looking site up and running. Since then I keep on discovering all the web-design options this program offers - and this will take me at least another year. It can be you your "all in one" solution, doing a good job with graphics, too ( also vector graphics). But it leaves you all the options open (for example great import, export and organizing features). You can choose designing only by using the graphical user interface - or HTML coding - or to combine both. This means the namo web editor certainly needs some work to get used to it. It comes with an extensive manual describing most of technical details. I did need this manual (also the information is also provided in the online help) and you will miss it if you acquire the download version. The only thing which should be added to this package is a dedicated introductory guide for beginners.
So far I have not discovered bugs and the websites displayed exactly as in the (built in) preview option.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK But It's Not Perfect, September 24, 2005
By
This review is from: SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite (CD-ROM)
I have used Namo WebEditor for two or three years, starting with version 5, then 5.5, then 6. The reviews here seem to be either raves or trashes.
Namo is a good product but it has deficiencies. I found no bugs in versions 5 and 5.5 but 6 had a few, particularly in loading pages made with 5 or 5.5. I installed the patch and have had few problems since. I keep 5.5 on the machine if I need it.
There are a few things that don't work well so I've been thinking of buying Dreamweaver. I would have by now if (1) it were reasonably priced, and (2) it were not so difficult to learn. The other programs in the Namo suite are buggy or of little value. Posts on the Namo website forum repeatedly trash the product support. I've not had to use it but I've had bad experiences with support from Dell, Microsoft and other companies. Does anyone have good support any more?
Some of Namo Web Editor's plusses: (1) There are four viewing modes; Dreamweaver has three. To preview in DW you must save, open a browser and load the file in that. In Namo you can preview by clicking a tab. (2) There are built-in scripts (javascript) that are easy to use. Some don't work right. (3) There are many sample pages that you can modify and use. I think the designs are awful. (4) There is a fair collection of clip art, photos, graphics and other items that can be used in your pages. The buttons can be edited for color, text, size, etc. (5) Namo's window can be sized to the most common screen settings (eg. 600 X 800 etc.) so you can easily know how much of the page won't be seen by people who set screen resolution for large displays.
I have not found above items 2, 4 and 5 in my uses of Dreamweaver. I don't think they are available in Dreamweaver.
I have made many pages with Namo, accept its shortcomings, and have no problems with it. Maybe I've been lucky as far as the bugs are concerned.
A new version (Web Editor 2006) is shipping and is being roundly trashed in the forums on the Namo website. Apparently it is not much different from version 6, and has several bugs.
I will continue using and enjoying Namo 6 (with 5.5 on standby) until I have learned more about Dreamweaver and can buy a leftover prior version at a reasonable price. I've downloaded Dreamweaver's 30-day trial three times and am only now starting to feel comfortable with it. It does have a good tutorial but there is a lot to learn.
If you are considering buying Namo, look at Dreamweaver and Netobjects Fusion 8 as well. Trial versions are available from all three (go to the respective website). Dreamweaver is the most complex and most difficult to learn; Fusion is probably the easiest to learn, by far, but Namo may do more.
If Namo installs properly, works well and you can learn it, it will do a great job for you. If you are a beginner, get "HTML for Dummies" along with whatever program you get.

2.0 out of 5 stars Agree with other reviewers - poor support & buggy, October 20, 2004

I agree with most of the other negative reviewers. Despite the high praise and many features in this web editor I have had nothing but frustrations with it. The registration did not work and a question I sent to the company was never answered. What is most frustrating is that many things work in unexpected ways. And other functions have a mind of their own - for example, I set a table column width in NAMO but when I look at it online its different. I simply can not make tables work right. Even though I'm a 20 plus years computer user, I've had to hire a programmer to help use this user-friendly tool! I like the price and the features - too bad I can't make it work. I end most sessions saying, I hate this program!

1.0 out of 5 stars Namo is Lamo - Bugs Bugs & MORE Bugs, October 22, 2005
This review is from: SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite (CD-ROM)
Amazon should allow us to vote ZERO stars.

Please do NOT purchase this software. While it has many desireable features at an affordable price it is not worth the money. It is a simple program to master but it has a great deal of software problems that NAMO acknowledges but refuses to do anything about. Customer service with NAMO is non-existant.

WebEditor crashes -- a lot. I checked the NAMO site forum (...) and found that many users have multiple complaints of bugs with this software. For example, paragraphs often don't wrap and have to be totally reconstructed in another software and cut and pasted back into the editor. It removes spacing and spontaneously changes line spacing. While I have never crashed when working strictly in the HTML mode, the program constantly crashes and loses data while working in the WYSIWYG editor mode -- and WYSI NOT What you get. What you see in the "preview" is rarely what you see once your site is published. Columns shift, spacing disappears, etc.

When you are in a table, if you try to block highlight a paragraph including the font tag of the previous paragraph and hit delete you will crash your software program every single time. Not good for when you are moving things around or cutting and pasting.

Another problem with the software is that for no apparent reason users get a "cannot read memory" error specifically linked to the NAMO software (it even asks if you wish to debug NAMO WE 6.0) Ha. Another funny is thing is that when you go to the NAMO site to try and email a complaint they have bugs in their own website!

What you might save in time (easy to learn) and money you will more than pay for in countless hours of frustration and lost data. Trust me, you will end up tossing NAMO out and going out and ubying something else instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite, July 11, 2005
This review is from: SJ Namo WebEditor 6 Suite (CD-ROM)
When I first started using this program I thought it was great but when I had trouble with the text wrap, I couldn't fix it. There were large spaces between words and when I tried to pull the words together they all bunched up with no spaces. Everytime I deleted them and started over the same problem came up. When I tried to publish, it just wouldn't do it and when I finally did get it to publish, it published only parts of the website with blank places on the pages. The spell checker did not catch all of the misspelled words either. There is no on line support for this program and it is full of bugs. I uninstalled it and purchased FrontPage 2003 and have had no more problems. I do not recommend this program. It does have lots of nice Themes but they will not publish. The price is right but the product is not.
