Overall, I like this box a lot and recommend it. It's way lighter and smaller than my old box (an old wooden Gemini 10U top/8U front) so I can now carry my system around by myself. Case is strong, not flimsy at all, and easy to carry. I have a Gemini Mixer and Numark D2 Director in the top and a 1U Gemini Power conditioner in the front and a USB sound card under that.

I just wish it had a 10U top so I could access my mixer ports more easily during a show. With an 8U top and not much space behind the opening, it is REALLY tight back there for my cords. I had to drill a hole to be able to access the 1/4 in mic jack in the back of the mixer more easily. If not make it a 10U top case, at least expand it in the back by another 1" or 2" beyond the opening to leave more space for the cables.

Also, I like having cable exits in the sides of my case. This one has the cable exit at the bottom of the removable panel, which works fine, but I added a side port myself on each side. But that's a personal thing, no complaint.

Finally, I'd love to see a hard shell hinged squared off top added to the box to make it easier to pack and keep it better protected in transit. The "soft" top is ok, but I I'm not sure how long it will last. It's well constructed and all and reinforced with cardboard or thin wood (I forget) so it does add some protection, but in the end it's a "soft" top, not to mention it's slanted, so not so good for stacking anything on top of it, which I suppose is for the best.

This case looked perfect for my Mobile DJ set up however some quality issue and design flaws made this less than desirable.

My rig is pretty simple. 1 Hercules RMX Mixer (6U), Nady 2RL Rack Light (1U) and Power conditioner (1U) across the top with a 2U drawer in the bottom to hold Mics, cables, headphones ect and a SKB AV8 stand for the laptop. I use powered cabinets so an amp is not needed in this set up.

Design Flaws:
SKB uses non-standard (propriety) screws. These are very coarse thread screws that will never hold us as well as well as a finer thread screw(More threads per sq in equals less likely to strip out)
which brings us to the second problem: Plastic molded female threads.. Course threads plus plastic NON-REPLACEABLE threads means once the holes strips out (And they will) the only thing getting screwed is you. The screws are also very short. If you want to use the SKB AV8 laptop shelf bolted on top of (in my case)the power conditioner and rack light mounted in the back of the top, You only get about 1.5 threads into Plastic to hold it all together. Buying a longer screw isn't an option as they are proprietary screws. To say the least, these stripped out on my first outing with the rig and almost cost me a $1,600 laptop when it went crashing to the ground.

Quality - I had to use a sidegrider to trim away the rough cut inner lip around the inside of the top so that the power conditioner would even fit. There was about a 1/4 inch lip on the inside of the case that should not have been there (poor molding) and made it where a standard size 1U power conditioner would not fit. Also the carpeting on the SKB AV8 shelf looked horrible. It was poorly glued on and coming off soon as I opened the box.

Great Idea. Lightweight and the perfect size. Just poor quality, poorly designed screws and once the plastic strips out, nothing you can do but throw it away.

Got the case with no other packaging besides the product box. Like other reviews said the amp doesn't fit in very easy. But other then that its very nice.

its molded plastic but that makes it light... i holds my mixer, crossover and power strip.
one word of caution, my amp barely fit and i couldnt get my speakon connectors to go on when it was in...

For the first time or novice DJ this SKB case is compact which makes it ideal, it takes up little space and is light weight when fully outfitted with DJ gear. Happy to recommend!
