Too Small / Can't Use for Air Travel,
By Doug (Seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SKB Economy Double Rifle Case (Sports)
I bought this model (also known as the SKB Freedom Double Rifle Case) before I bought the SKB single-scoped rifle case. This model has a thick layer of styrofoam behind the gray foam you see pictured. The styrofoam doesn't compress so if you put two rifles in it (in my case a scoped 7mm Remington and an old .22 target rifle without a full scope) you have to lay on it to close it, and the latches often go askew and don't close properly. Since on a plane ride you have to realize the case has to be easy enough for a disgruntled TSA worker not to get frustrated or impatient with it, I wouldn't go there.Further, it has TSA locks integrated into two of the latches. Ironically, TSA latches cannot be used to secure firearms, they're only okay for normal baggage. Because there are no eyelets for securing the case with a padlock, this case won't qualify for air travel unless you get a baggage handler who doesn't know what they're doing. Once in the case, the firearms are secured well and seem well protected. Getting them in there is such a pain I don't know that I can recommend this case even for storage use or transporting your rifles to the range. The interior length and width were fine for my rifles, but the depth, because of the styrofoam, was insufficient. I've heard great things about its big brother (but it's a lot more money) and the Pelican 1750. I'd go with either of those if you need to the double rifle. If you don't, go with the SKB single-scoped rifle case (which has only real foam, no styrofoam. I reviewed that one and it's perfect for air travel.

I bought this item for my needs based on the given internal dimensions. I received the item to find out that the item was smaller in most dimensions, especially the most important one to my purposes, the depth, which was more than an inch less than stated.

Okay - Not Great,

This review is from: SKB Economy Double Rifle Case (Sports)
I purchased this case based on its listed dimensions. However, my rifle wouldn't fit because there is an inch of structural foam in the lid and in the bottom which greatly reduced its depth. After removing the layer in the bottom (messy - glued in), my rifle fit. On the second trip to the range, one of the locks fell off. Luckily, I found the parts and was able to reattach it. A simple nut came loose. No locktite to hold it in place. If you have a flat rifle with a scope that doesn't have tall target knobs, this case would be okay. But first thing to do is locktite the nuts that hold the lock in place.
