This is a solid case for the Zoom H4N. Over all I recommend it. My only quarrel is that the case doesn't have enough cut outs for memory cards, and batteries.

Without making any other changes to the case SKG could have provided at least one more SD card slot in the case. I would like to have seen cut outs for 4 SD card cases and cut outs for 4 AA batteries.

It does have a huge circular cut out for a windscreen for the H4N's built in mic- but that's unnecessary. They could have made a smaller hole for this purpose to make some room for the other gear I mention.

Better yet a slightly larger case would be nicer.

So, to sum up, there could be improvement, but its a good case.

I have to admit, I was hesitant at first. The H4n already comes with a pretty nice, tough little plastic case so what do I need another case for? The SKB 31 is an absolute must have. Its like body armor for the H4n in transit. On top of that, it fits the H4n and all of its accessories like a glove. I use it on film and video shoots to capture audio directly from boom or interview mics. Things get harry, loading in and out equipment, but with this case, I have no fear for the equipment inside of it.

If you're really concerned with protecting your Zoom H4N and use it in a lot of locations, this might be something to consider. Read on, however.

Quick one-line review: Solid construction and very durable but the small size makes it more practical to musicians that filmmakers in my opinion.

Contruction/Durability:

This case is solid and very well-made. In that regard, it's awesome. It has plenty of padding and will keep your H4N and accessories together and WELL protected.

That said, onto the usability/practicality for production/film use:

For me, after receiving this case, it has become apparent to me that it's not very practical in use and here's why: It's small. This was done on purpose of course, and it's not like you can't see how small it is in the photos. For me though, it doesn't fit anywhere near enough gear to be used as an overall audio case on productions, and isn't small enough to easily tuck inside a larger audio case. For me, with the mountain of gear I sometimes bring with me, I like to consolidate the small cases into larger, compartmentalized cases with wheels.

If I was making the choice again, I would probably spend a couple extra dollars and buy a slightly larger case from Pelican with either the pick-and-pluck foam or padded dividers, so that I had the same rock-solid style case, but enough room to carry a small wireless system, a boom mic, some cables and accessories (headphones, mic clips, etc. etc.).

Onto the usability/practicality for Musicians:

As a photographer/videographer AND musician, my interest in the Zoom H4N (and this case) was two-fold. As a musician, I think this case is far more practical. When I go to jam with a friend and we want to record it for practice/posterity reasons, I don't need a whole pro-audio bag with boom mics and wireless lavs, etc., and this fits the unit and pertinent accessories perfectly. I like the screw-on mic handle for music use ('cause there's always a mic-stand handy), and I like that there's a place for that in this case.

This case is EXACTLY as described! It even has a vent which will relieve pressure if there is a build up inside the case. I'm assuming if it's left out in the heat. Perfect size, even for the few optional accessories...but don't over do it. Will fit the wall wart, mic adapter, and extra storage card.

First of all, SKB is a fantastic company. I've used their road cases in the entertainment industry for years now and have always been extremely happy with their performance. This case is no exception: it works just as advertised, is waterproof (I tested that before I believed it), and withstood me running over it with a golf cart with no dents at all. I have full confidence in the fact that this case will last for years to come, and I wouldn't have expected anything less from a SKB. If you are hesitant because of the price, it is well worth it, and the case just might save you from buying another H4N...

When I worked at a video rental house in Seattle, the boss always said that having a really wellbuilt, tough and padded case was the best insurance for equipment that money could buy. That advise has stuck with me and I believe it. When you have high cost video, audio, musical equipment be sure that a vital part of your purchase includes a good case to carry it around in. This case is great, everything fits snuggly and has a small footprint and you can use a razorblade to make extra spaces for additional small items in the foam. Don't skimp on your cases.

These cases tend to be a little pricey, but this one is worth it! It's lightweight, yet extremely well-made. the buckles are high quality, snap tightly and give you the confident feeling that they will not open on their own - and they probably won't because they require a firm finger tug from behind. It would have been nice to see a separate cut-out for extra batteries; however, there is room under the wind filter for about 4 pairs of AA batteries.

I love this case. It is rock solid, waterproof, and does it's job well. Sure, it's pricey, but 10% of the value of the item is fairly typical for a good case. I wish it were slightly smaller, because sometimes I don't take the case when I have to travel with limited space, but otherwise it does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Let me start out by saying this is an awesome case and at a great price point, I'm quite happy with the purchase!

That said, I also purchased additional accessories for the Zoom h4n, including the wired remote. As others have already said, the case somewhat lacks cutouts for additional items. I was able to fit the Zoom, in it's plastic case, the windscreen for the builtin mic, inside that I put the provided USB cable, I suppose I could instead throw spare batteries there. In the long compartment I placed the mic stand adapter, wired remote and the power cord/wall plug. This is a very tight fit. I will probably be modifying the foam to allow a 2nd SD card slot and perhaps give the remote it's own slot.

Great product, smart fit for H4n accessories. Waterproof and tough case that could withstand more than I can subject it to. This will travel well.
