This set by skil does not state the shank size whether it's 1/4" or 1/2". Amazon sellers really need to be more accurate in their descriptions. The set I bought was 1/4" but I used it very little with my Ryobi 1.25 hp router. The router bits themselves are not very robust the black paint corrodes and chips off as happens with cheap bits. They cut smooth in pine but burn in oak. Oak is too hard you need 1/2" collet size router and bits with 1/2" shank to match. Some of the better routers bits are freud, cmt, mlcs. Instead of buying a big set in box buy only the ones you need and make your own custom wooden box or a wall case. Sets with lots of bits tend to be low quality and not cut smooth or last long unlike drill bit sets where it makes more sense to buy a good set of 29-32 or more drill bits something like stainless steel or even titanium coated. Cheap routers bit sets give you a lot of ogee and specialty bits that I don't tend to use since I don't like the look it profiles. More useful to me and popular I think would be flush trim bits, straight bits, tongue and groove bits, different bits for joining, chamfer, dovetail, and round overs. For 1/2" shank size the bits seem to run $20-$40 each but are worth it since it will make big deep smooth cuts in the wood and do dadoes. They are the work horse bits you will turn to time and again so it pays to buy a few high quality bits that can cut up to 2" (like knock out holes) instead of a bunch puny ones that only go 1/4" deep and are kinda crummy. Shop around, do research and get a router with 1/2" collet size and enough hp for hardwoods.

Lots of great bits for multiple projects. If you have a plunge router this is the set that you want. It will cover a variety of cuts that you might need when starting out with woodworking. I recommend this set to anyone.

These are cheap bits but they appear to work fine and are holding up well. They aren't the greatest but at about $3.33 each, you get more then you pay for. I don't use my router that much and this set provides a nice variety with a small initial investment. They come in a nice wood case with a polycarbonate window. I'll replace the bits with high quality ones as they wear out. I would recommend these to a friend.
