At least the base is very well built and sturdy.

All told, I will still be using it, and I think the workout is really effective for improving not only my upper body strength, but my core and balance.

Color me a bit embarrassed, but I wanted to update my earlier negative point to change it to a positive.

I'm a female and thought this would be a great way to tone my arms plus tighten my core. When I use it, my arms are splayed out to the sides when they should be underneath me...It's hard enough to do push ups but to have your arms to the side, is not gonna work. This looks like this is for a big man.

The Sklz is part perfect-pushup and part-medicine/Bosu ball rolled into one. Simple, but ingeniously effective. It makes for challenging exercises.

The Sklz base plate is solidly built and not lightweight. Two handles are provided, which must be attached with four screws and an allen wrench (also provided). The handles take but a few minutes to install. The inflatable ball comes deflated and a needle hand pump (with needle hidden inside the cap, smart!) is also provided for variable inflation.

The handles are extremely hard; I would recommend doing pushups with fitness gloves. Even with gloves on, I could only do a dozen before my hands hurt. Cushioned grips anyone? The handles are also placed too far apart. I'm not as broad shouldered as whoever it was designed for and variability would have been appreciated. The handles are unfortunately fixed in place.

I over-inflated the ball but wasn't able to find a way to deflate it. I guess I'm stuck with leaving the ball to deflate on its own? (EDIT: Joseph, from this review's comments section, suggested removing the needle from the pump and deflating the ball with it. Duh! Stupid me.)

I'm used to doing pushups/pullups from my P90X regimen but the Sklz takes it to a whole different level. It's definitely challenging once you add in the ball.

In short, it's a good product but they overlooked some design issues that could have been easily rectified.

This Sklz Core Push Up Strength Trainer is an extremely effective device, and after only a couple of uses, I can tell it is going to improve my core strength.

Set-Up is incredibly easy. Just attach the handles to the frame using the allen wrench and screws (all included) and pump up the ball (handpump included). The whole thing takes less than 2 minutes. (As a side note, the handpump is cool, and has a hole in the top of the handle to contain the needle between uses. A little rubber stopper holds the needle in its place in the handle. A minor thing, but I suspect I will get additional use out of the handpump with other items I own.)

Suggested exercises are on the face of the device, and when you do pushups, you'll be looking right at them. The frame is steel, and is extremely durable. The handles are comfortable, and easy to grip, resulting in an ease of use.

Doing pushups on the thing is challenging, and I could feel the use of muscle groups not usually worked by normal pushups. THe instability created by the ball makes you use more muscles to balance, as well as do the pushups. It is VERY effective compared to a traditional pushup

The only negative I can find is minor, and it is based on the steel frame. It is so solid that I am concerned it could chip tiles or scratch hardwood floors, as I'm putting my body weight on a piece of steel that is subject to me losing my balance. I would think that foam or rubber on the ends would prevent damage to flooring, and I have taken to using a yoga mat under the device. A towel might also work, but it might be more likely to bunch up and inhibit your workout.

All told, I will still be using it, and I think the workout is really effective for improving not only my upper body strength, but my core and balance.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Summary: This is a nice addition to a home gym. It will improve your pushups and help you get more out of them. It's a long way from essential, though, so I'd only buy it if I already had the basics, or as a gift for someone who loves fitness gear.

Description: You can basically see it from the promotional photos. This is a metal plate with two handles that comes with an inflatable ball and a hand pump. You put the plate on the ball, then do various exercises - wide grip pushups, standard pushups, planks with your feet on the plate, etc. It works best if you have the ball on a mat or something so that the ball doesn't slip and so that the plate doesn't bang against your gym floor.

The idea is that by forcing you to (1) maintain your balance, (2) widen your pushup grip, and (3) lower your pushup range thanks to the raised handles, you'll get a more powerful pushup and a stronger core workout.

I can definitely feel that these are pumped-up pushups, and I like the trainer a lot, but I question whether this would be on my top ten list for a home gym. It definitely does what it promises, but you can get a lot done with regular pushups or more general equipment. I don't think I'll be using this as much as I use my pull-up bar, for example, or my kettlebells, but I do see myself using it for quite a while.

The plate is incredibly sturdy, and as far as I can tell, the ball is well made too. I think this would be suitable for a public gym or a home gym, and recommend it if you think you will use it regularly.
