SKLZ Smash Bag

Learn the feel of the correct clubface impact with the SKLZ Smash Bag. An ideal training tool for the beginning and intermediate golfer, the Smash Bag provides visual feedback on the quality and accuracy of impact. All you have to do is line up and swing, then take a look at the angle of the proprietary target map to see how you did. If your swing was true, the bag will remain aligned. If your swing missed the target or hit it a skewed angle, the bag will retain the depression for further analysis. On the whole, the bag helps eliminate fat and thin shots and cure slices. Made of a heavy-duty, high-impact material that quickly fills with towels or clothes, the Smash Bag is perfectly safe for both you and your clubs.

I was originally looking at a Callaway branded impact bag but came across this one. It's pretty much the least expensive impact bag I've found so I went for it. The material is pretty beefy and looks like it's going to take a decent pounding. I ended up filling it with old sheets, shirts, leftovers from slutty ex-girlfriends, old underwear, etc.... It's been great, if not for just being able to swing my 6 iron at something while at home. If you're doing the drill properly it will help you feel your club face position at impact. After having used it for a couple hundred swings now, I think I might get more use out of doing what the other reviewer recommended and filling it with bird feed. That would solve the problem of having to reposition the bag after each swing and allow for a better indicator of your club face at impact. FYI - depending on how much you practice, you're going to go through at least 2 per year so cheaper is better. I don't think the other ones that cost more will last any longer.

I keep this right next to my practice tee area. When my swing is not quite right; a few practice swings into the bag gets me focused. It stops your club right at the point of impact so you can see where you are coming through the ball. A regular practice swing can't do that. I filled it with rubberized landscape chips and just leave it outside all year. I rotate it so I'm not hitting the same spot constantly.

I tried using bird seed as several others had recommended. After a few months it became seriously infested with bugs, maggots, whatever. (I live in a hot climate). I had to chuck the bag and get another. Otherwise, nice product for the price.

This is a nice little add to your training routine. I haven't found it to be magical by any stretch, but it's a proven strategy for improving impact position, and the bags pretty much are what they are. So my review is more about the claims that it's not durable than about the value of the aid itself.

You're not supposed to just haul off an smash thing thing with a full swing! Doing so is obviously going to put holes in it and probably damage your club shafts and even your joints. This is best used with partial speed swings - just enough to make a nice "thump" while allowing you to pay attention to your positions throughout the swing. Not sure what just wailing on it would really do for you anyway.

I filled mine with rubber playground mulch on the bottom 1/4, then just old towels above that. That gave it a little more heft so I'm not chasing it around, and also a little more shape. My guess is bulk sawdust would work really well too. I found when it was filled with just rags that it sort of took on a lumpy shape that made it very hard to use. But soft is good - I'd imagine filling it with rice or birdseed as others have suggested would give it really good shape, but again you're going to have issues with it wearing since there won't be any "give" to it.

Definitely is helping my golf swing. I do 20 hits per day and it is great for my game. I have had no problems with breakage or fatigue of the smash bag!

Three months of use (75 to 100 strikes a day) bag started splitting at seam.
Several rolls of duct tape later bought the Dr. Gary Wrien(sp) bag.
Much better product for not much more cost

I just began playing golf in May '09 and my instructor suggested I buy an impact bag to help me develop a strong, straight swing. I waited for a few months and strugled with the dreaded slice and fade. I was beginning to get the feel for a proper impact but was still strugling. After I got the SKLZ bag and worked with it for a few days, I saw my ball starting to fly straight where I was aiming. No more adjusting my stance and aim point for me. Parallel left and I'm on my way. I also added about 10 to 15 yards to my woods and long irons.
