4.0 out of 5 stars Run to your nearest BJ's, August 12, 2008

This review is from: AT&T SL82618 DECT 6.0 Digital Expandable 6-Handset Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering System (Electronics)
I have been wanting a new phone for a while and have been looking at the DECT technology in particular. I was at BJ's today and found this set for 129.99..no kidding..SIX handsets. So, I snatched it up and came home (then only to read the great reviews of this phone type..much to my relief). I have not used it much yet (I've been home about two hours), but set-up was A BREEZE. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that the directory is stored in the base, not the handsets, so when info is entered into one, it's in them all. This was not available on my last expandable phones which is such a major pain. The two calls I've made to my husband were clear as a bell using the handset speakerphone. I have not tested range yet. The handsets are sleek and pretty, and now they're all over my house. My one tiny disappointment is that the base does not have speakerphone. There have been rare instances where when I'm cooking and have my hands all messy that I find it easiest to press the speakerphone button on the base rather than have to remove a handset from the cradle (if it's there!) and then press the button. Somehow, I'll survive, but you can get it sooo much cheaper at BJ's.

Purchased the SL82658 on 5/13/09 at BJ's for $88. plus Ma Sales Tax. Can't beat the price for what you get. Have just started using them. Quality, and sound good. Easy set up. Intercom feature great for transfering calls. Have not tested range. A couple of flaws early on; the phones indicate when you have a voice mail, but you have to put the access telephone number and code in the directory, there is no short cut. The other issue is that if calls go to the recorder the phones only tell you tha you missed the call. You cannot access the recorder from the individual phones you have to go to the recorder to get them or call in from another line. This might not be a problem for some if you can locate the recorder conveniently.

Found the unit extremely convenient to use. Messages saved on one phone can be accessed from all the other expanded phone units. The same with phone contact numbers. Good value for $$$

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice!!!, December 27, 2008
This review is from: AT&T SL82618 DECT 6.0 Digital Expandable 6-Handset Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Answering System (Electronics)
As ninalinska has noted, this set is available at discount wholesalers for an excellent price.

Best of all, it can be expanded to 12 handsets, making it ideal for VIOP, Internet telephone service. Many homes have a phone jack in every room. If you switch to Internet phone, you will either have to reroute your current phone wiring to your computer or live with a single phone jack. With 12 handsets, a single phone jack will be no issue at all for most people.

If you need to add handsets, you can buy them individually AT&T SL80108 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Expansion Handset (Titanium and Carbonite) or in a three-pack AT&T SL80108 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Expandable Phone 3-pack Bundle. The price per unit may even make it effective to buty another 6 pack, deregister the phones from the base they came with by pressing two buttons on the base, and registering the handsets with the new base, one button press per phone.
