SCROLL SAW\W,
This review is from: DELTA SM600 Shopmaster 2 Amp 16-Inch Variable Speed Scroll Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
The saw came from the factory without the bearings being lubricated. Once I discovered this and cleaned them up and used a high quality grease on them the excessive vibrations stopped. The blower blew the sawdust towards me so I took off their setup and replaced it with 1/4" copper tubing and adjusted it so it blew towards the back. I removed the hold down clamp as it is not necessary and just gets in the way. The lower blade clamp did not hold the blade well and I wound up stripping the threads on the screw. I ordered a new screw and the square, threaded clamp (cost of $6 + freight). I feel that is a riduculous price for a bolt and nut which is all it amounts to. Since then it has worked well. I guess for the price now that I have it working well it is OK.

This is a great saw for the price. The table vibration is what you would expect from a saw in this price range. The blade clamping system and the variable speed is what I think puts this saw above its competitors in this price range. It's hard to find a $100 saw that will clamp pinless blades as well as this one. Most cheaper saw are dual systems (tend to be inadequate when cheap) or will accept pin blades only.
I did have similar problems as the other reviewer. I have not yet stripped out the screw from the lower clamp, but I believe it is replaceable from any hardware store. The drawback is the hex socket is larger than you would find in this size screw by standard means thus making the quick change tool included in with the saw useless. The blower system is inadequate, but I modified it with a flexible blower from another "spare parts" saw. Also, the motor has a tendancy to vibrate its mounting screws loose adding to the vibration and safety. The problem with this is that it is difficult to get to the mounting screws withouth tearing out the entire electrical system. I managed to get to them and put some locktite on the threads and it seams to be holding. All in all, a great $100 saw.

There is more vibration than I would like, although not excessivly so. The arms are slightly out of alignment, but probably have little effect on performance or blade life. New owners should lubricate immediately. Speed control doesn't work however the working speed is just where I would like it, and I don't care to go through the trouble and delay of returning the product. All in all I'm not overly thrilled with the saw... I didn't expect it to be for the price paid.

A very heavy (can't believe Amazon can include shipping)clunky (requires many adjustments) type saw (my first scroll) that easily cuts tight patterns in wood that other saws can't. It is obviously budget priced so it is hard to be overly critical of the somewhat crude design. My lower arm connection to the cam came off after just a few minutes of use. No troubleshooting guide for this. After taking switch housing off it was obvious the screw was never tightened. Overall good for the money.

I love the unit. It works very fast and was easy to assemble and even easier to change blades. I still have some way to go but it is great.
Watch out for who supplier is though, Geroy's shipped mine quickly but it was flawed, rubber grommit bad in front. Not a big Item but they have yet to replace it with another one. I think that stinks and is poor business on a new unit.

I bought this $100 scroll saw[ASIN:B000G0P5VS Delta SM600 Shopmaster 2 Amp 16-Inch Variable Speed Scroll Saw] for my grandchildren. Overall I found it has surprising vibration and proved mildly unreliable. I hope that it hangs together for them while I am away. Customer service was great in telling me how to fix the link that came apart. "Put on lots of Locktite." I use most other tools but not a scroll saw, so maybe I am just not accustomed to scroll saw vibration and problems.

My husband has sure enjoyed this new Delta Scroll Saw. He had a craftsman but did not like how the sawblade had to be tightened, or when he had to loosen the blade when changing sections on his pattern. It was always giving him a fit.
This Delta is so much eaisier to use. Snap the blade loose & snap it back when he is ready to go again. He is having trouble, when the blade is put in, he told me he gets what he calls whip blade,(what ever that is) It whips the blades where the craftsman did not. So he is fiquring out how to cut his work with this problem. He likes the way you don't have to fool around when securing the blade when untighting and tighting it. ITS SO EASY with no problems. A 100.00 for this product is well worth the money as he has been enjoying scrolling since he has had no trouble messing with problems with securing blades that keep coming off when you don't put them in just right. Machines are easier to use when you don't have to fight them because of technology.

My husband and I bought this saw because we are Cub Scout den leaders and thought it would be great for cutting out pinewood derby cars. We were right! It was just the thing. It does have a bit of wiggle, but when properly anchored on a sturdy surface it is not abig deal... I know we will find more uses for this saw, but for now we are glad to have it for making derby cars!

Appears awesome in quality for excellent price. Others recommend oiling & changing to a better branded blade before use. I've used an earlier model that did everything I wanted, with very good smooth-cutting results.
