Book Description

December 4, 2002
People train for many things; tests, matches, weight reduction, but few, in comparison to the generation of the sixties generation have trained for war. Plucked from society, having just completed High school or college, and immersed in an all consuming activity to make one ready for armed conflict was quite a shock for many who were involved.SMAC, Saga of a Student Warrior describes how James Callaghan dealt with the dramatic change in his life from the quiet of college to the all-encompassing training preparation for armed conflict in Vietnam.SMAC is the beginning of a trilogy following Callaghans four-year military life. It describes how he dealt with Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, Infantry Officer Candidate School, Signal Officers Training and finally as a Radio Officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. His story continues in Vietnam with C.M.A.C., Saga of a Saigon Warrior. ISBN 0595178863.Finnegans Military Saga series web site is www.saigonwarrior.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can Relate to The Adventure Story, March 25, 2003
This review is from: SMAC: Saga of a Student Warrior (Paperback)
Author James J. Finnegan puts you in the mind-set of a young man caught up with becoming a part of the military. The adjustmets in his thinking and daily life are detailed in fiction - which makes a wonderful format for him to explore the whole process without getting caught up in "personal history". Although, I feel and suspect, that most of his story may be strongly based on his own life experiences - I could identify and relate to much of what he went through.

The telling of this tale wets your imagination and desire to read the follow up book "The Sage of a Siagon Warrior".

For those who never became a part of this history - The Vietnam War - it makes a good inside the head look at what it was like. I highly recomend this book.
