The inner diffuser is removable, but I feel the unit is well designed as is. I measured the output of my Nikon SB-700 fired in manual with a PocketWizard AC3 and Mini TT1 triggering the flash via a Flex TT5. I used a Sekonic L-358 to measure the output of the speed light without the SMDV Diffuser 60 and then again with the Diffuser 60. From a distance of about 9 feet, I got a reading of f/9, (ISO 200, 1/125 sec.) without the soft box, and f/8, (ISO 200, 1/125 sec.) with the flash attached to the soft box. This test was with the inner diffuser attached as shipped from the factory.

I'm not familiar with your flash but on my speed lights, like anything, the ambient light matters a lot. If it's during golden hour, 1/32 or 1/16 is a good starting point. During stronger sun, you will need 1/2 or 1/1 and pretty close to the subject.
