I have used a number of these wireless navigators and this one is simply the best. I just bought a second one for my own personal use, when I am giving talks away from work. It is beautifully constructed, easy to operate (plug and play--anyone can do it, no troubles), well-designed and SIMPLE. It uses AAA batteries (no funky watch-type batteries, thank you!) and has performed great. The laser pointer is bright enough for me and we look at bright LCD projections in well-lit rooms. Overall, this is as close to perfect as it gets.

I have tried out a number of presentation remotes and this product is the best I have found. While it does not have all of the bells and whistles of other remotes, it is also foolproof. I have to support dozens of faculty members at the college that I work at, and each faculty member has a different skill level. The simplicity of only having 4 buttons means that anyone can use it. Even the faculty that are afraid of technology do not seem to have trouble using this.

The range is fantastic and the battery life is pretty good. I have 7 of these units permanently located in classrooms and even with all that traffic I have not had a single unit fail in 3 years. This unit doesn't require drivers so it is easily installed, even into a visiting laptop.

The only problem I have had is that sometimes I will get the transmitters and receivers mixed up, and have to re-sync them. Each remote has to be synced to a specific receiver, but once this is done it remembers even when unplugged.

This was the second atempt to try the Interlink Remote after disappointed with the VP4300. It had almost the identical problem as the VP4300 except the buttons are a little firmer. The control of PowerPoint is excellet except again the blank screen button is often accidentally pressed during the presentation.

My biggest problem is the laser. It is way too weak and dies often in the middle of a presentation.

I just used this for a presentation the other day after not using it for a long time. The original batteries still worked! After sitting for years!
Pros: Simple user controls, easy set-up, RF communication which often is better than line-of-sight IR, laser pointer, fairly compact and easy to store, screen blank- un-blank button. Generally less expensive than devices with more features.

Cons: No built-in memory for your presentation in the USB part, no mouse control in this version limits what you can use it for, you have to remove the batteries to prevent it turning on and draining the energy from them.

This little guy works great. I'd had one at a previous job, and wanted one like it at the new job. It works every time with every PC I've ever tried it with. Buttons are laid out just where you'd want them. People that have never used it before get the hang of it immediately.

Yes, there are fancier ones, and I've used them, but I prefer this one. It's simple, non-confusing, and there are no buttons to accidently push and sudden bring up a menu or the mouse pointer.

The laser pointer is adequate, though not nearly as bright as the green lasers. I like the video mute button, which allows me to "mute" the picture on the screen if I want the audience to pay attention to me instead of the screen temporarily. It also works great to have the video off before I'm ready to start, then click it on as I go up to speak.

And the price is right too.

This is a two thumbs up.

I have a colleague who uses this and it has been great. However, when I received mine it would not work. After talking with company support I learned that it is not working with Windows 8.1. My BIOS did not present the solution they offered. I am returning it and waiting till the company and Microsoft get this sorted out. Big disappointment.

Got it right the first time, and that was 10 years ago. The SMK Navigator still does the job of fitting so neatly in my hand that I can forget it's there, always doing the job I bought it for. As adjunct faculty I use it perhaps 5 times a year and occasionally at national symposiums--once with an audience of over a thousand. The Navigator did not fail me. I have no, absolutely no, complaints.

So why would I buy a new one? Well, I felt it was time to tap into the next generation and bought the SMK-RemotePoint Global ($131) SMK-Link-Link RemotePoint Global Presentation Remote with Red Laser Pointer and Full Wireless Mouse Control Presenter VP4350. Grateful that I bought it from Amazon because after an hour or so testing it out, right, I sent it back for a refund. Why? Because the next generation of magic only created a potential risk of causing a glitch; namely, the remote mouse feature, which I have no use for during a presentation anyway, also it didn't work all that well, and finally, it only got in the way. The Navigator, again, fits so neatly in the palm of my hand, just the right size and shape, that any attempt it could only detract from its perfection.

Perhaps, I thought, I should switch to a new design altogether. So, on Wednesday, on the way to my a lecture, I stopped at Best-Buys as I drove into town and picked up the "Logitech Professional Presenter R800" and even used it during the lecture--for five minutes and then quietly switch back to the Navigator. The problem I had with the R800 was the long, narrow design required the navigator control buttons to fit so close together that it required visual confirmation to use--not good when your standing in front of 50 students for six hours.
