I'm not sure if I need to break them in longer, but I've been using them steadily for a month and so far I haven't noticed a difference.

As a DJ and avid gamer I'm always in the market for new and decent quality headphones. I've owned and used many headsets over the years (this is my first pair of SMS Audio STREET by 50) and there always seems to be something new for PC, gaming consoles, mobile devices and DJing. As I always enjoy testing out new headphones here are my thoughts on the SMS Audio STREET by 50 First Edition Star Wars On Ear Headphones Galactic Empire;

Pros

+ Compact with ear cups that fold inwards and fit nicely into a neat little carrying case. Excellent for travelling!

+ Well balanced sound quality. Not too tinny with the treble and not overwhelming with the bass.

+ Decent passive noise isolation. Ear cups sit around your ears, not on them. This forms a seal which is great at blocking noise and good if you're not a fan of current in-ear noise isolation headphones.

+ Nice packaging with some nifty extras like stickers, poster, cleaning cloth etc.

+ Audio cable controls are easy to use and manipulate.

+ Officially licensed Star Wars product.

+ Sleek look and design that's simply plug and play.

+ Lightweight.

Cons

- Uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I have a smaller than average head and wear glasses but after 30 minutes the ear cups I was really starting to feel the pressure.

- For the high price point the sound quality is mediocre. Not completely disappointing, but you definitely won't be wowed either.

- Steep list price of $199 which I feel is too much for what you're getting.

- Build quality consists mainly of plastic and synthetic which is a bit disappointing considering the price tag.

- No Bluetooth or wireless capability.

So here's the deal: I've reviewed more than a few sets of headphones and earbuds. I was a recording engineer and record producer for a while and I'm pretty picky about sound, so I tend to check out new sets looking for a nice surprise sound quality-wise. Sadly, these did not deliver.

Construction wise they're pretty alright. Seem well-made, fold up small, fit in the football-shaped case that's included. The cord is removable (good), but can only be plugged into the left ear (less good). The Star Wars branding is really nicely done, and the swag is ok I suppose, but none of that means a thing if you can't get good use out of the headphones, and there are two reasons that just wasn't happening for me.

First, they just aren't very comfortable. The band over the top is thinly padded and the cups are on the small size, making the grippiness intrude on the listening experience.

Second, the sound is just nowhere near where it should be for a set of headphones like this. The upper mids are strong, but bass and lower mids are muddy and lack definition. The high end is attenuated, making it sound like a cloth has been tossed between the cups and my ears when I compare it to other sets I have on hand (Sennheiser HD580s and Pioneer SE-MX9s which I'll be reviewing when I'm finished with this piece). The one nice thing I can say is they are extremely efficient, making it no problem to use a portable music device to drive them sufficiently.

In the end though, as much as I'd like to love them, it looks like all the care went into making a package they could sell to Star Wars fans rather than important things like long-term comfort and sound quality.

These are really great headphones that are excellent for bass-heavy songs. They handle bass really well and the sound is clear. They are comfortable for extended periods of time. The Star Wars design are embossed.

BUILD: It's definitely a solid build. Ear cushions are very soft and comfortable, and the foam is 5/8" thick. The size of earpieces is 3" H x 3"W. The earpieces fold in to save space and the headphones store in the included flat case. The flat case is a medium-strength hard case. It looks excellent and definitely protects the headphones. The earpieces can extend further down one inch with the adjustable slider in the headband for people with bigger heads. The center of the earpiece is about 5 inches down when closed and 6 inches down when fully extended. The headband is covered in soft foam and is comfortable. There is a layer of soft foam at the top of the headband that provides extra cushioning against the top of your head. The length of wire is 4 ft 8" (or 56"). The end that plugs into your device is right-angled. The end that plugs into the headphones is straight, 3.5mm jack.

SOUND:
After sample different songs from different eras and types of music, my conclusion is the sound is excellent. For bass-heavy songs, the headphones handle bass very well and keep the sound clear and consistent. Even songs that don't use bass much, sound very clear and come through amazing. But by default these headphones are made for bass-heavy songs, and so the bass is also turned up on songs that don't use deep bass.
I sampled 50 Cent, Nas/DMX (Grand Finale), Dre/Snoop (Next Episode), Flo Rida, Michael Jackson, Green Day, Nightwish, GNR.

Additionally, these aren't noise-cancelling headphones.
