The FC Twin is even more than what it promises. Yes, it's a system that plays old Nintendo and Super Nintendo cartridges (PERFECTLY!), and the controllers are exact replicas of the SNES controllers, but this system is an improvement over both old systems, too.

For starters, the FC Twin is far more compact than either system. It's only slightly wider than an SNES cartridge and about 2/3rds as deep as an SNES. it will easily fit on an already crowded shelf next to your DVD player and other entertainment systems.

Secondly, the system connects to your television with modern RCA cables instead of the old coaxle connector. This means you can put the sound through your stereo system and also be confident that this will connect to any modern television set (including flat panel screens).

Finally, the NES component is a top loading cartridge system utilizing a card slot reader, so it plays classic Nintendo cartridges with far fewer problems than the original system. This means less time spent blowing on your old cartridges, hoping they'll work this time around.

The FC Twin has been ideal for my needs in terms of cost efficiency (cheaper than buying either original system), space efficiency (smaller than either system), and reliability (more reliable than an NES), but there are some minor imperfections that buyers should be warned about:

1. The FC Twin uses SNES controller sockets, which means that any SNES controller device can be used with the FC Twin, but classic NES controller devices (like the Zapper) cannot.

2. According to Wikipedia, the following Nintendo games will not work with this system: Bandit Kings of Ancient China, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Dragon Warrior II, L'Empereur, and Rad Racer II.

3. Also according to Wikipedia, the following SNES games will not work with this system: BatterUP, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Star Ocean, and Kirby Super Star. In the two years since I purchased this system, I've only discovered one other game that does not seem to work with the FC Twin: Rocco's Modern Life.

The flip side of this is that the rest of the games DO work. So, unless you're particularly attached to the above games, this is the system for you.

Finally, some people have complained about the Twin no longer reading their cartridges after only a short amount of time. People, CLEAN your cartridges before using them on a new system. In each example, applying a q-tip of rubbing alcohol to the dirty cartridge contacts and the system contacts has solved the problem for these people. You can then use the cartridge instantly since the alcohol will almost immediately dry upon contact. Make sure not to touch any other part of the interior of the twin with alcohol, though, as this can damage your system. As I've said, I've been using my FC Twin for two years now, and I've never had a single problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Find Original Controllers., February 21, 2009

This machine is perfect. First of all, it's great having a console that plays both NES and SNES games. Next, the AV cable is a dream come true for those of us with new televisions and 8-bit cravings.
All of my games have worked fine so far. My only complaint, and I knew what I was getting into, is the controllers being crappy and awkwardly light. It's no problem to get on Ebay or use Amazon to find some original SNES controllers, which work fine with the FC Twin.

3.0 out of 5 stars Game console, September 10, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This game console plays both the 8-bit Nintendo games as well as the 16-bit SNES games. It is so convienent. I dont have to have two seperate gaming consoles with extra cords and extra space on my TV stand for storing both decks. I have used both the 8-bit and 16-bit slots in the decks. It played the games exactly like the original decks. The one big downer about it is that i cant pause any games. If i have a game paused for over 5 minutes, when i get back to it, it is frozen or the graphics are way off making game play impossible. I have had to start over many games because of this problem. I remembered this after a few times and didnt pause anymore. And the deck is very unstable. The slightest bump can cause the game to quit. Once i learned all the glitches i learned to avoid them. I still prefer this deck over having to have both nintendo decks. The price was right for this game to. I payed less for this deck than i would have for just one of the nintendo decks. If you have the money and the room i would recommend buying the original nintendo decks. But if your like me and dont have much money this deck is a much cheaper alternative.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been perfect, January 21, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
My only real beef with this system is the terrible audio quality for the NES side. It's pretty bad when I'm actually wincing as I hear the music for Dragon Warrior 4!

One of the main reasons I still love to play classic games like Megaman,Dragon Warrior and Ninja Gaiden is to hear all the great music that is featured. When you take that away.... well,it's just not as fun playing with your ipod on;but hey,at least you can still play.

On a side note,it's been said that you can NOT play Dragon Warrior 2. Well,I could play my copy just fine.Maybe it has something to do with the save feature?? So far though, everything played out perfectly.

As for the SNES side it's almost completely flawless. The sound quality is perfect as is the gameplay. The only thing I don't like is that you cannot play Super Mario RPG;which I think really s-cks.That was one of my favorite 16-bit games. You can't play it for the same reason you can't play Castlevania 3:Dracula's Curse on the nes side.It has to do with a newer chip that was used in the game's creation. It makes the information process faster. The good news is that there are only a few games that use that chip both on the nes and snes side.

As other reviewers have said, the cords with the controllers are short;I recomend buying an extension cable for the snes at your local used gaming store. Also the controllers that come with it aren't very good (at least in my case) The buttons had very slow response rate and some didn't even work. However the contollers can be replaced with traditonal snes ones and work perfect for both 8-bit and 16-bit.

You might also find yourself in a struggle with the death grip that the FC twin puts on your nes games;supposedly this lessens over time.

This would have been a perfect system esp. with the ability to play games from both the 8-bit and 16-bit generations. However the poor audio quality on the nes side and minus Super Mario RPG on the snes side take away a few points.Still it's a very admirable attempt, and I'd rather use the FC twin than have another two systems on my tv (I already have a PS2,Xbox and gamecube hooked up!)

5.0 out of 5 stars FC Twin aka Famicom is so awesome!, November 29, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SNES/NES FC Twin Video Game System - Black (Game Cartridge)
This system is so cool. It's basically a nintendo and super-nintendo built in one. And the best part is that it has no blank screen or flashing that the old nintendo was plagued with. It has two slots for each cartriage with all the cables to connect to your TV easily. You may have to put the game in for the nintendo portion a few times before it starts depending on how dirty the game is. It's also hard to pull out once in but not impossible. The super-nintendo portion is easy to pull out and plays everytime. If you are an old-school gamer and love all these classic games for these systems and don't want to fuss with two systems with all connections then get this system today. I love it. Plus the price is right. ;-)

I just ordered this for my husband's birthday. He LOVED it and we have been having so much fun going down memory lane with all the games we used to play as kids. It's a good small size so it doesn't take up much room, easy to hook up and operate.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd give a 4 but that'd be a lie!, March 30, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So lately I've been feeling Nostalgic and decided to get back to my VG roots. I looked around on Amazon for the NES and SNES consoles, I checked the prices for them separately and thought to myself, "its 2009 there's got to be some sort of dual play consol or something close." So I checked on the search tool and there it was the FC Twin by Yobo.

Anyways on to the review, so I just got this consol on Saturday and I was actually really excited. The set up was quick and painless so no complaints so far. All the games fit and worked perfectly.

The only complaint I have and it's not even that huge of a prob but the length of the controller cord is really short. From other reviews I read and from the obvious looking at the consol itself, you can buy the original SNES controllers and fix that problem directly. Granted I'm still waiting for mine in the mail, and when I get them and test it out I'll do an add on for this review.

All in all this is an awesome product and I recommend this game consol. It's cost effective and 2 in 1 so really you're saving money, space, and those crap AC adapters that take up 2 slots on your power strip.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed, May 5, 2010

The price is appropriate for this unit, as it didn't function as soon as it came out of the package (no screen pictures, only sound). More importantly, I emailed the company asking for help as to what I might have been doing wrong or if they could help in any way. I waited for a month, never received any kind of response, and filed for a refund.

You are better off finding a refurbished unit, because you certainly get what you pay for.

some people cant take things for what they are and that leads to negative reviews i have only 3 complaints about the system

one, the nes side does kinda stick and requires you to wrestle out the cartridge, not that big of a complaint but a complaint none the less

two, only a few dozens games do not werk on it, i have well over 3 dozen games snes/nes mixed and only one game does not work. happens to be castlevania 3 so thats kind of a big complaint, but not a deal breaker unless the only reason you buy this product is to strictly play draculas curse

three, i had to do the magic breath blow into some of the games to make em werk, but you even have to do that to the nintendo brand systems too

i have not had any problems with the controller cord length, some people have. sure they are short but i dont sit 7 to 8 feet from my tv, i dont have good eyes so i sit a bit closer, plus when i originally played these games the cords werent that long on the systems and had to sit closer maybe thats why my eyes are bad... anyway i have had zero problems with "bumping" the system and having it freeze or lose the save data, in fact i pick the system up put the game in and set it down. sure the sound emulation isnt the best but it stil sounds like it did years ago. they say you get what you pay for but i stumbled on a gold mine for the price of less than a days wage, when i plugged it in and played them oldie but goodie games it took me back to when i was a kid and to have that feeling again is priceless

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but no fun, July 19, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought the twin for the same reason anyone would. To play some old school games. Every NES I had crashed and I'm simply trying to preserve my SNES (still the original).

It was so much fun. I popped in Dragon Warrior, Fzero, Kirby games, Zelda, and tons of other great games that just take me back.

Well, that's all over now. System crashed. It absolutely refuses to turn on. I tried a different AC to see if that was it. No Joy. Apparently I'm supposed to play without power.

Spend a bit extra and go ThinkGeek. Get the Retro Duo.
