4.0 out of 5 stars A good book for its time, December 17, 1999
By
Jerry Schneider (Idaho Falls, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This book is pretty old, early 70's, but it has some good information on snowshoes and snowshoeing. I like to read how the old timers did things, life was simplier back then. The book has an interesting section on how to build your own snowshoes. There is a better book on this subject by Gil Gilpatrick, but it is still good information. I enjoy reading this book, it is a real pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goodie., January 11, 2011
This review is from: The snowshoe book (Hardcover)
Having moved back to the treacherous Minnesota winters, I thought I would do some reading on some winter activities since it had been a few years since I had attempted any. I came across many books on the subject of snowshoeing and this is one of the best. It is quite old. Older than I am actually. But the core information is very good. It's chapters are broken down in chronological order and goes into the proper details.
I used this information to help me in building a pair of my own snowshoes with a little bit of ingenuity of my own, it gave me the building blocks to do so. (Of which most books out there were lacking e.g. size of the pieces of ash to cut).
I found some parts of the text quite humorous since it was so old. It references that a good set of gear should cost you about $175. You can't even find a set of snowshoes for that price.
