This review is from: SOD: Blackbeard's Lost Ship (DVD)
This work tries to solve two matters. First, it wants to know if a wreck was Blackbeard's ship and second, it investigates if he pushed the ship into a sandbar purposely.
First off, they say the North Carolina coast has approximately 2,000 wrecks in its waters. Obviously, this is not a rare or unique occurrence. They find a ship that was pirated from that era, but to me, it doesn't prove that it was Queen Anne's Revenge, Blackbeard's ship. As to the second question, they reach an anticlimactic statement. I won't say more as many viewers don't like spoilers.
The work had gender diversity among its interviewees, a good thing. If you liked the forensics scene in DiCaprio's "Titanic," then you may like the computer graphic display here.
I'm a descendant of African slaves. At one point the work finds beads that they say indicates that the recovered ship was a slave ship. How do we know this? If it was chains to oppress Africans, then I would understand the work's logic. However, how would a bead be unique to the Middle Passage?!?
This is not an award-winning work. However, you can watch and not kill brain cells. For viewers especially interested in the early 1700s or in piracy, they may get an especial kick out of this documentary.
