Showcasing SOG's top-end opening and locking technology, the AE21-CP Aegis Mini folding knife is a sleek, versatile and easy-to-handle tool that can stand up to tough use. Featuring a 3-inch stainless steel blade with a satin finish, a well-balanced body and SOG's trademarked DigiGrip handle, this knife makes quick work of a wide variety of tasks.
Aegis means "shield" or "protection" in Greek, and it's also the code name for both the world's premier integrated air defense system and the sea-based element of the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System. Thanks to SOG's thoughtful features, this versatile knife lives up to its illustrious name. The knife opens to a full length of 7 inches, and its 3-inch straight blade is crafted from AUS-8 stainless steel for improved strength and edge retention. The satin finish on this blade is both lustrous and unforgettable.
SOG's unique cryogenic heat treatment increases the toughness and wear resistance of the knife's blade. The process takes the knife slowly down in temperature to less than 300 degrees Fahrenheit and then back to room temperature again. This process relieves stress in the material on an atomic level and increases overall strength and edge retention; Knife edges stay sharp longer, with significantly less micro-fracturing and edge-chipping.
When you start to open the AE21-CP blade, SOG's patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As one opens the blade, the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force and the blade opens on its own. The end result is the blade propelling open once the operator has initiated the one-handed opening action. With fast, easy access, use the AE21-CP blade whenever you need it.
The SOG Aegis product line includes a reversible, low-carry bayonet pocket clip. The clip protrudes from the butt of the knife, providing discreet and accessible carry. Plus, the clip is easily reversible for whichever side is most convenient.
The Aegis knife is designed to sit comfortably in either hand, and is well-balanced for a natural feel that inspires confident cuts. SOG's trademarked, checkered DigiGrip handle provides a sure grip for safe, accurate positioning. The tacky rubber inserts on the handle offer extra anti-slip security. Plus, this handle is crafted from tough, glass-reinforced nylon, a compound that is lightweight, abrasion resistant and impact resistant.
Along the handle of the knife you'll find a safety locking mechanism to hold the blade securely closed when not in use. This features ensures the knife is safe and secure in your pocket.
