Cryogenic Heat Treatment Guarantees a Sharp, Dependable Blade
The E37 offers a full, 4.85-inch, satin-finished, AUS8 stainless steel blade that has undergone SOG's proprietary Cryogenic Heat Treatment process, which ensures that this blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and requires slowly reducing the blade's temperature to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then slowly heating the blade to room temperature. The stress created by this process strengthens the steel on an atomic level and increases the blade's overall durability and edge retention.

Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Years of Effortless Use
Even if your blade is sharp, it's hard to make precise cuts if your knife doesn't fit comfortably in your hand. That's why this knife's handle is ergonomically contoured. Crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel, the textured handle is also slip-free and well-balanced. Other ergonomic features include deep finger grooves and a blade spine rasp for easy notching, filing, and thumb placement. Also, at just 5.4 ounces, this knife is lightweight. A tactical nylon sheath with accessory pouch is included for convenient portability.

This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

ive used this knife for 2 years now and it has never dissapointed me. i love how it feels in your hand, how it cuts, and the size and looks of it. i go primitive camping twice a week for 3 years now and this is the only knife i take with me. i dig holes for fire pits or number 2 if you know what i mean, i have opened countless cans with this knife and have split wood via batoning hundredes of times.this is hands down the strongest knife out there. the sheath is perfect. its so hard to find a sheath that matches the quality of the knife going in it, but this one is! the knife fits perfectly and doesnt wobble around. it has both a snap and velcro so you know the knife will not fall out. the blade is also very easy to get out of the sheath. this is good if you need to get it out in a emergency. it also has an outside pouch with a velcro flap. you can put alot of useful things in there such as a folding knife, multitool, sharpener, lighter, firesteel or even a compass. i personaly carry a bic lighter and a smiths sharpener.the items in there will not fall out by accident either.the handle is made of a very hard plastic that is very comfortable. dont be afriad to use the handle to bang in tent spikes. it does that very well. the knife is also easy to sharpen and holds its edge well. the tip looks delicate but is very strong. you can hammer the knife tip into a tree about an inch or so, then step on it and the tip will not break! i have tried this, and frequently try to break the knife and cant. you will not be dissapointed with this perchase and the price shown here is by far the best around. i also have given this knife to 2 marines i know who went to iraq. both loved them and are very proud sog owners.

I am truly impressed by the quality of this knife and sheath in relationship to the price. I opted for the straight edge with the satin finish, because the TiNi coating wasn't worth the additional cost to me. The coating definitely adds the "cool factor" and has some functional advantages, but for casual camping/backpacking, I did not find it necessary.

The product arrived sharp with a light protective oil on the blade. Upon examination, I was unable to find any quality issues or blemishes. The blade has a nice, smooth surface finish. I would not classify it as a satin finish though. It is reflective, so if that is an issue for your application, go with the TiNi coating. I like the fact that this knife is full tang, yet still lightweight, and the sheath has many mounting options. For this reason, it's great for backpacking. I added a couple of small D-rings to the back of the sheath and clipped the knife upsidedown to my left pack strap allowing for quick crossdraw accessibility.

The sheath, in it of itself, is just as nice as the knife. It features a MOLLE style attachment system and a functional front pocket large enough to accommodate a multitool, small flashlight, sharpener etc. The sheath features a plastic insert to guard the nylon from accidental cuts and gives some retention to the blade in case the handle strap isn't clasped. The handle strap consists of a button snap and velcro to ensure that everything is secure. Also, I read one review stating that their knife came with a sheath that did not match the photo. I believe the reviewer was referring to an older model sheath SOG once issued. Thankfully, mine was shipped with the pictured sheath. This model is much improved and I can appreciate that customer's disappointment.

This is a great blade. Good hard steel that holds and edge. Excellent grip and balance. A little big for some, but I only carry this knife when I am in the backcountry. It is surprisingly light, and it is nice to have a big, solid blade to use for food preparation, general survival use, and pig stickin.

Bought the knife last year and was thrilled with it. Felt great in the hand, had a keen edge, was great looking. It was a while before I was able to prove it on a camping trip, and that just a month ago. Having read the reviews, I knew the knife would go the distance. Then, while cutting a small price of bamboo, I hit the back of the blade with a larger piece of bamboo and clink, the blade sheered cleanly in half. I didn't clobber it at all, just a little hit to accomplish my mission. I was shocked. How could a knife break so easily? My old ka-bar from Marine Corps days still takes a lick in' and keeps on chippin'. For the money I expected a lot more. Hope I can find where it had a warranty. Buyer beware.

This is a great knife for the money. For a long time I couldn't choose between this one and a short Kabar. Many pros and cons to both. I debated for probably 9 hours reading reviews and watching videos on youtube, etc. Until finally I bought the Seal Pup Elite. Mine came with the tiniest little "nic" in the blade but i didn't think it was worth whining over. The steel is strong and sharp. No real complaints at all. This IS the ideal knife for backpacking/hiking/hunting/survival/price -combined. There ARE better knives in all of the previous categories, but for all intents and purposes, this knife will do it all just fine.

Edit: (11/5/2013)

*I previously said this was a "good" knife... I have owned and used this knife for everything outdoor related since I bought it in 2010. This is a light duty knife that can handle some heavy duty tasks as well. I have used it extensively for fire-building duties, light shelter making, and wild game prep. The sheath is well-used, buit is holding together well. I keep a small plastic lighter, flint/steel, a little multi-tool, and a P38 can opener (because it takes no space and weighs nothing)in the pouch.

It amazes me when I can split wood and gut a fish easily with the same knife. It does not rust, and while I usually avoid Aus8 steel, SOG does it right here. For a more dedicated survival knife, the Cold Steel SRK in San Mai III is better, but it's also bigger, more expensive, heavier, etc. As I previously mentioned, if you are in the market for and an all-purpose fixed blade outdoor knife, and you want the highest "value" for your money, then this is the knife you want.
