Very high quality; well balanced handling; solid feel and construction; VERY, VERY sharp right out of the box. Sheath is tightly sewn and has an attached pouch that makes for a very good gun clip holder. Knife will not bust through the sheath. I haven't seen this knife for less than $75 in my local retail stores that sell SOG products. Great for adventure camping.

Just because it's a SOG does not mean quality!,

Tip bent within the first few strikes on a branch!
Not intended for serious use IE: camping or "THE JUNGLE". I will be getting a KBAR for sure.

Great prop, horrible knife.,
This review is from: SOG Specialty Knives & Tools F03T-N Jungle Primitive, Black Hardcased (Tools & Home Improvement)
This knife looks very cool and mean and I think it was a smart move by the SOG marketing team. Would make a great prop in a Rambo movie or something similar. But for anyone who knows even a little about steel and knives in general, this piece is plain JUNK. The steel is horrible and is as cheap and low quality as you can find. The blade is thin and very easily damaged/broken. The balance is also bad. This is not a useful knife at all in that it loses it's edge just by looking at it and the light-weight flexible blade is horrible for trying to chop anything. The saw-teeth on the back are also useless in that you can't actually saw anything with them.
Don't get me wrong with this review... I'm a big SOG fan and own several of their products. (Trident, Seal Team). But the knives I own and like are made much better with much better materials. The Jungle Primitive is just plain junk and should be avoided like the plague by any real knife owners looking for a useful blade.

This knife came in great condition, razor sharp, great sheath etc. however fierce looking it is it carries no weight. Tried it out in the backyard, a lot of force is required to cut anything down (which is what a survival situation would call for) not good for batoning, blade bends pretty easily which makes me nervous. The saw on the back is alright, but it's a little to short to be truly effective and was a little annoying. I don't think I would put my life in this knife's hands. It has some lanyard holes to strap it to a stick to make a spear I suppose? But a huge spear like that would be impractical. Fail SOG I have loved everything else SOG I have ever owned, but I'm sorry this is a toy.

The Jungle Primitive arrived packaged a bit poorly, the knife was covered in oil (to prevent rust?) however, the knife itself is full of features. Pros: -The blade is stainless steel, comes pretty much as razor sharp as you would want on a workhorse knife, plus it has a no reflection black oxide coating -the blade has two different degree serrations, the one on the back isnt too hard to use for small saplings (hope my neihgbors wont notice), while the serrations themselves contribute to the look of the knife. -The handle has pretty good grip for the blade edge facing you or in front of you, plus the butt end of the knife has a tip addition that can be used to crack open things like a coconut, or a person's head (i didnt try the latter) -comes with a nylon sheath which i also give 4 stars -balance is biased towards the front, i find it helps with chopping motions. Cons: - using the big serrations on the back gets a little used to, you have to make a little indent with the small serrations to start it off -the price, hmm i guess its okay, but i got it on amazon quickpicks for a bit less Overall, i would recommend this knife, especially if you go camping or go into the woods alot. This knife would also serve its purpose if you buy it to impress friends or scare off people you dont consider friends. Update-March 15,2011 I went to go cut some barley grass, and i just so happened to use this knife, after owning it for quite a while, i never sharpened it, yet it was as sharp as the day i first opened the box. Cut through tough blades of grass (no match for blades of steel) with ease. Still Highly recommend this knife!

First off the knife I received looks a little different than the picture. The handle has a smoother more contoured look and feel, not "plasticy" at all. It is a solid hard rubber-like material that is securely bonded to the tang that passes through and out the back to the pommel. The serrations are almost twice as long near the base as the picture, and the tip of the blade extends a little further. The lettering on the side of the blade is less prominent than the large, bright ones pictured. My guess is the picture was an early model that's been improved on. It is exactly what it's described to be, a "Fusion" of a machete, survival knife, limb saw, and hammer. Of course it's too big to gut a small fish or clean your toe nails, but the extra pocket on the sheath is perfect to carry a small folder. I was also able to fit a Smiths combo sharpener in there as well. It's light but solid and it's a SOG! I'm glad they came out with a more affordable line of products, we all can't afford $200 knives! Anyway, I'm keeping this knife right next to my 72 hour survival pack. I may never use it but I'm glad to have it for the next "Big one" whatever that may be.

This is a great knife first and foremost, for hiking, camping, working in the woods, frightening your neighbors to death, whatever it works well. The steel is a little soft so it will need sharpening very often, carry a touch up stone. It came with a modest angle (too wide) about 30 degrees, which I changed to 25 degrees, which suits me better - so after changing the angle of the edge, it's all good.
This thing is tough as nails, light enough to assist in cutting a path to where ever you are going. I wouldn't want to chop down trees with it, but that is why I carry a small ax too. When used as designed for light brush clearing, and perhaps making your kindling for your fire this is the only tool you'll need.

This knife has an outstanding feel in the hand. I brought it with me camping and it easily cut through small branches and greatly assisted me in gathering wood for a fire. The saw on the back of the knife came in quite handy for bigger limbs and as a bonus - it has a pouch on the front of the sheath for a smaller knife. Overall, this is a great product and very durable.

I took the knife with me into the wilderness on a survival course. Throughout the day we did a lot of cutting and chopping. It held up like a champ. I would not hesitate to take it with me into any survival situation. The only thing I would recommend is to wrap the handle in 550 cord. The handle is a little thin for my hands and the cord gives me a better grip and helps absorb the impact of chopping. Otherwise, I love it.

When i first bought this knife i was scepticle. this is a GREAT knife i use it mainly for chopping away foliage to get to my favorite fishing hole and hunting spots. i feel extremely safe with this on my side. it is a little bigger than i thought it would be, the blade came sharp but it is not as sharp as i like my knifes to be. the handle is great it is sturdy and has a grip like none other. the sheath is a little bulky but it is still comfortable. the saw on the back is not that great for wood but it works great on bone.my own personal opion is that you should buy this knife if you do any type of activities in the forest. BUY THIS KNIFE!!!!(sorry if my spelling is off)
