The Ultimate Pocket Knife.
I feel I need to say a few words in defense of the SOG Salute. IMO, this is the best dollar-for-dollar knife available.
Objectively: Exteneded (NOT skeletonized) steel liners, massive lockback, teflon washers, adjustable thumbstud and G10 scales. G10 is not as grippy as Kraton,
but Kraton will wear down fairly quick, whereas G10 will stick around pretty much for eternity. These are features you would find on knives costing vastly more than the Salute
Subjectively: Very ergo. I find it to be the easiest thumbstud knife to open. Of the ones I own, anyway. Looks wicked. The only thing I really don't care for (and the same could be said for most other knives as well) are the meniscule Torx head fasteners. they strip out too easy. The should include wrenches or at least indicate the correct Torx head size for each fastener. Preferrably, just use some decent sized hex head bolts.

I have carried a lot different folders over the years. And for the price this is a great lil knife. It is sturdy and well built . Sharp out of the box. Would highly recommend it to any one looking for a solid affordable folder.

Awesome knife. got this as a good tactical knife and it works great. the blade is very sharp and is great quality like all SOG products. the adjustable thumb stud is great and comes in handy works great easy to open a little heavy but for the size it is fine.

I purchased the SOG Salute because, unlike most folding knives (even "tactical" models) it has the right balance of blade length vs. handle length, almost 100% G10 coverage over the gripping surface and an overall design that gives it a lot in common with fixed-blade knives. No, I would not use it for prying or heavy chopping, but I wouldn't use ANY folding knife for those purposes if given the choice of something more appropriate. Although some knife buyers don't like the use of Torx screws to hold everything together, I'll take that over knives that offer no way of tightening or loosening at all. Naturally, there seem to be complaints about the Chinese construction or the choice of steel for the price, but this is an unfortunate fact of life in modern knife construction for those that can't justify the expense of higher-end models.

I have seen the Salute priced as high as $50 and wouldn't pay anywhere near that much considering some of the alternatives that become available as you approach that price point, but for a sub-$30 folding knife, SOG offers a lot to like with the Salute. I wouldn't hesitate to carry it in a situation where a fixed blade is impractical or where the Salute's size isn't excessive. While I generally prefer a flipper to thumb studs, opening the Salute quickly is quite easy, and I've found that the clip has enough flex in it to retrieve the knife quickly from a pocket, definitely more easily than with similar Kershaw models.

Long-term reliability and durability remain to be seen, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another SOG Salute, especially taking into account the workmanship compared to other similarly-priced Chinese knives from big names like Smith & Wesson, Remington and Boker.

I am very dissatisfied with this knife.

First, let me say that the blade and locking mechanism are perfectly adequate. The blade will not "flick" open via the thumb stud, but it opens smoothly with one hand, it closes without resistance, the blade is nicely shaped, and the knife overall is a comfortable size for a large hand. On unboxing, I thought this was not a great knife, but would be a perfectly fine knife. For the price I was *very* pleased

The problem is that the handle scales are carved from a weak, brittle phenolic fiberboard, and these handle scales are meant to hold the belt clip (actually a pocket clip, but we call them belt clips) in place. That's a joke. I wore my knife for ONE afternoon, and the simple act of getting into and out of a car half a dozen times bent the belt clip out to a 45 degree angle and tore the phenolic handle scale. There is just one screw holding this belt clip in position (a ridiculous design), and now it is inaccessable behind the bent clip.

SOG should be ashamed of themselves.

If you intend to carry your knife in a purse or a glove compartment, this knife is perfectly fine and a bargain at this price. But if you intend to carry your knife in a pocket, on a belt or on tactical webbing, avoid this knife like the plague.

This is my first more or less assisted opening pocket knife. I've always had some type of pocket knife with me. The old TL 20 while in the navy, boy scout knife while a boy scout many years ago, and swiss army knife while roaming the countryside(literally) working for American Red Cross disaster services for 20 years.

I am impressed by the quality for cost of this knife. It took a short while for it to loosen up and open easier, but that isn't an issue since I don't forsee the need for knife fighting on the streets of Cleveland(Then again, it is Cleveland so you never know). The knife has a substantial feel to it and fits my hand well. The blade size and shape is impressive. The G10 handle gives a good grip. It was fairly sharp and now its sharper and seems to stay sharp. I am glad I bought this high value/low cost knife.

I am planning to get one for my daughter who is transfering to Australia for a short term assignment. Because you never know when you'll have to cut something. A good purchase. I'm glad I bought it.
