This knife is a very sturdy little knife. It is just about too big to fit comfortably on a keychain in my opinion, but just squeaks under the weight and size limit for me. It is quite a nicely machined little piece of kit, but the design is slightly subpar in a couple of areas. Overall I like the knife and would buy it again, as it is sturdy and functional enough to be a real working knife, though obviously on the very small side. Some pluses and minuses follow.

Pros:

+ What appears to be decent quality steel in the blade and handle; this is not a toy

+ Tanto knife point should make it a good puncturing tool, though of course you would not want to use this often for poking or prying hard materials

+ Decent enough edge upon opening the package, though it can usefully be sharpened a bit more

+ Locking mechanism protects one's hands

+ The joint is nice and tight, with little to no play in any direction in the opened position; tightness means knife is extremely unlikely to open on one's keychain

+ The "SOG" cutout on one side of the handle reduces weight a bit (why not on the other side, though?

I have the first micron and have had it for four years and has been great except for one thing, it didn't have a lock and I cut myself with it. I bought this one cause I noticed it does have a lock, got it today and to my dissapointment it is too large, no longer is it feasible to have attached to my key chain. I'll still use it but not on my key chain, other wise everything else is great it seems. Posted a pic with the first micron so you can see the difference.

I originally received my first Micron Tanto as a door prize and thought "What will I ever use this for?" Then I started using it to open boxes on a daily basis, opening my mail, slicing apples (after washing it of course), etc. It is the perfect size for being used on a key ring as I prefer to keep it as small and light as possible (Google "heavy key chain ignition" for reasons). I really like the shape of the blade which allows you to use the slanted tip of the blade in a straight down motion as opposed to a slicing motion when you are trying to accurately cut something in two. The knife was very sharp out of the package, maintained a nice edge, and sharpened up quickly when needed (which is no more so than any other knife I have owned). I was very surprised at how well the matte black finish held up after several years of abuse.

It had become such a part of the normal things I always carry with me that I seriously contemplated missing a business flight when I realized that I had failed to remove it from my keys when going through airport security. I fly more often than the average American for my work and, more often than not, I would forget about the knife being on my key ring. It finally caught up to me recently. When faced with the choice of missing the flight and catching a later one, I eventually sided with tossing the knife but I have since repurchased it.

For my intended purpose, which is to always have a knife on me and to reduce the number of individual items I carry, the SOG Micron II Tanto takes the cake.

I got this knife to use it as a keychain, the first one I received was nicely sharpened and looked very nice, the problem started after a few days when it broke down inside my pocket while I was not even using it. The little metal part that secures it in place broke and the blade will not stay in place. I went to SOG's web site and submitted an email explaining the situation and received a response 2 days latter with the option to send it back for replacement. At that point I was not in the US to return it so after a couple of emails and pictures they agreed to send me a replacement one. The replacement one was new, unopened but it wasn't as sharp as the original one so I then had to sharp it myself.
I will like to mention that both knifes where manufactured in China and there might be the problem, but overall the manufacturer did stand for their product and I will still buy this knife as the price is right and the replacement one is over 2 months and I haven't had any problems with it.
SOG is a great brand but I will recommend you to keep away for the knifes made in China as there quality may be lower.

The best thing about this knife is the size-you don't even feel it in your pocket no matter how much crap you have in there. I have a few bigger knives, but I get frustrated and angry at having large lumps of metal in my pocket all day. They sit on my dresser until I am planning on doing something where I will need a knife. But then suddenly I need a knife when I wasn't planning on it, and my pockets are empty, and I cry like a baby. An angry, hungry baby. So this one I carry all the time, everywhere. I slip it into the useless coin pocket on my jeans. When I wear shorts I slip it into my slim carry wallet. It is even surprisingly easy to forget it is in your pocket when you go to the airport. And TSA is not amused. Not even a little.

The only reason this gets four rather than five stars is because one of these broke. Something got wonky and it will not close, it is locked open. No idea why. I was going to take it apart, or even try to warranty it, but what I did was epoxy a magnet to it and now it sits on my fridge. I'm going to use it someday to surprise a thief trying to steal my ice cream, but in the meantime it is a super handy box/letter opener.

For the price, this is one pocket knife that lives up to the name-it will live happily in your pocket and you won't even know it is there. And it is pretty much awesome.
