Product Description

The SOG Snarl Fixed Blade Knife was designed by Jason Brous as a “functional fantasy” Snarl knife that features a 9CR18MoV stainless steel blade. It’s a brass knuckles/SOG mash-up. The Brous series of knives have been designed in conjunction with Jason Brous, a 10-year CNC machinist and custom knife maker. Brous prefers to use stock removal and grinded bevels to create his ''functional fantasy'' knife designs. SOG is proud to be collaborating with this up and coming knife designer to produce innovative products, like this 9CR18MoV stainless steel blade, with a molded hard nylon sheath for reversible belt carry or neck carry.

Yes it's 1/4" thick stainless metal, the kydex sheath fits like a glove no play, and the removable belt clip is great. also comes with black neck chain.
Just under 4.5" in length when sheathed, the sheath is 2.25" wide. For the money I think it's very nice indeed !
At 1/3 the cost this is an EDC you can carry with out paying a fortone. Also the 2 hole design is the best in my opinion.

I was pretty excited to receive this SOG/Brous collaboration. It's a solid little knife, thick piece of steel and feels like it could take a beating. The sheath has good retention and easily clips onto your belt. The included clip only supports horizontal carry -- maybe a small teklok would provide other options (although I'm not sure about that).

Despite liking the knife, I just can't get used to it. I know this is a very popular Brous design, but I just can't figure out a way for me to hold the knife comfortably. I've tried various grips but I don't feel as if I have control of the blade with any of them. I have pretty regular sized hands but whatever I do it's just pretty awkward.

Best knife for concealment very comfortable around neck. Sharp as a razor. Knife is secured in sheath perfectly. Will not fall out on own. Chain strong enough to withstand pull to get knife out. So comfortable I sleep w it. Great product. I own 5. Going to save or give out as gifts. If you ever feel insecure because you don't have something to protect you this will relieve that tension.

The first thing about this blade is that it is thick! I measured it with my micrometer and it is 6mm thick. The pictures don't really depict the size that well, but I really like the size. I have been using the blade for just about everything. It is a really handy tool. It didn't come very sharp though. I had to spend a while sharpening it. I would recommend it highly!

The blade comes a little dull, I intentionally dulled it even more along with wrapping/burning 550 cord around the rear finger hole. Reason being, this "knife" is more of a high stress weapon. This is meant to be used in conjunction with gross motors skills I.E. punching, jabbing (nasty up close inside fighting). Considering the draw and striking style used, I could see me cutting my middle finger so I dulled it down. I wouldn't dare do this to the silent soldier II but hey, this is only thirty dollars.
Pros: Awesome sheath very secure, quality steel
Cons: Potential weak point at base of blade (should be beveled outward) and the sheath clip can only be mounted for a side draw, which I love but some wouldn't.

My understanding is that this is a close in, last-ditch defensive knife. I've trained with Janich's Martial Blade Concepts as well as the Defensor method and liked this knife for the finger hole retention, for the sub 2.5 blade length making it legal in my jurisdiction and for the sheepsfoot/wharncliffe blade shape. Look up Janich' analysis of blade shapes and stop cuts/serrada and you'll see the usefulness of this blade shape.

What I don't like about this blade is the edges around the finger holes and cut outs. I solved this problem by wrapping the handle with paracord, which makes it a lot more comfortable. I assume one could also dehorn the edges of the handle too- maybe I'll also try that- a dremel might work, although I've never done that myself. Another reviewer on youtube pointed out that he and Brous didn't like the fact that the bottom edge of the blade where it meets the handle is too thin and might snap.

The best way I can figure out to carry and deploy this knife is on a belt at the 12 o'clock position, thumb pushes behind the handle and out, middle then index fingers go into the holes from back/forward and draw. A reviewer at PoliceOne said that this is really a neckknife- haven't tried it really in that configuration but I've also read that neckknives can slide off your centerline especially if you're on your back, making them difficult to deploy. Also, I figure drawing from the center/waist is more efficient and gives less of a tell than reaching up under your shirt.

And yes, the knife pictured is most certainly NOT the SOG Snarl.

quality as with most SOG products I have several knives and can't say anything bad they are just quality products.
The JB1K-CP Snarl Knife is a neat little EDC back-up knife. It's a little hard to figure out where to put your fingers when deploying it.
After a few try's you'll find out what fits your hand ,after that it's easy. The thick blade it a plus getting a good grip on the knife.
I really don't care who designed it. "some people are concerned about this" Everyone should remember it's a $30 knife, for that price you are not going to get quality like this. It's not for large cutting task. The sheath fits most belts, even shorts without a belt I had to get a pair of pliers and squeeze the clip together, it was too loose. If you know how to use a knife this will do what you need it to do.
Easy to keep razor sharp with a steel or a good wet stone. Can be deadly if you need it, Don't start a knife fight with this knife.
Remember the best weapon you can have is the one nobody knows about.
