Take away the pliers and you have a multi-blade pocketknife with a full size, 2.9-inch stainless steel locking blade, screwdrivers, can/bottle openers, tweezers, etc. Take the knife side away and you have SOG's renowned compound leverage pliers with one-handed flip opening capability. Put the two together and the PowerDuo gives you options in an ever-changing volatile world.

Gears in the handle allow for both quick, one-handed opening along with twice the gripping strength of comparable multi-tools. The idea was a great one and I was so looking forward to this tool since I heard of it in Jan. Sadly the day I got it I was let down. Like I said the idea was great but it felt cheap in hand and very poorly put together. The clear handles cracked the 1st time I opened the pliers. The tools were hard to open due to dirt and grime in between them. SOG was once a great company that standing tall next to leatherman. I can't say that looking at this hunk of junk. Not the SOG I know and loved.

I always carry a small multi-tool in my pocket and am on the look for the next greatest one. I've always liked the way the SOG opens with it's little cog wheels (same as a previous SOG I owned 15 years past). This particular SOG is a little large, too big and heavy for daily use in casual work pants pockets. Closed it's 3/4 inch longer then a Leatherman Wingman, it's the same length as a the Victorinox Hercules (4 1/2 inches) but twice as wide. It has full size pliers and a heavy 3 inch lockable blade. The small tools also lock when open but their release (different than for the knife blade) is really stiff, difficult to move.

I'm no knife expert but overall I'm pleased, it seems to be a quality, heavy duty tool. Just a little bigger than I thought it would be (the risk of buying on the internet - sometimes the size is difficult to visualize).

I think the multi-tool is great! It has everything I have been looking for. It doesn't have any of the issues people complained about in previous reviews. My only complaint is the case is too big. I don't know why the case is much larger than the tool.

1st the tool function and form well suited for medium task, all metal material are build with good quality indeed .Then I don't understand why they use a cheap plastic handle ....(except the tweeter is of well build)
lost a star because of the plastic handle was not designed well nor fitted right; as the holding .screw tighten, cracks around the screws and the fixing point .To remedy this a small washer with steps needed to be added in between the screws (to relieve stress on the (cheap) plastic, unfortunately , you can not do without them(the plastic) since they hold the entire assembly .Bigger holes need to accommodate the metal washer .I had to reinforce the plastic handle with super glue !
Sog's design in mechanical department is to be praised ,but that QC or final implementation department need to be replaced! That will move Sog to same level as the competition.
Leatherman I had, the tweeter separated appoint use and can opener also bended when used ,piler tip also tweeted off in medium used(Hard to believe ,have they test them ?)
for the juice and skeletal models respectively . I think there QC is going down as well . So far Swiss Army is the only one holding out well but price also goes up .

Looks like SOG had a bad batch of these. I ordered 2 and opened the first one and found the plastic casing severely cracked around the small bolts that hold it on. Did a return, and got a replacement, which had exactly the same problem. At that point I opened the second one which was going to be a gift, and found the same cracks in the plastic casing. So,.... I can understand that it was only the bolts that were over tightened a bit too much. Everything else worked so smoothly, and precisely so I'll wait a month and order again later. (July 2014). Amazon as usual was great with the returns.

I have been carrying SOG knives almost every day for almost 25 years. I have been very tempted by several of their multitools over the years, but this was the first irresistible one. Sadly, an otherwise outstanding value was rendered intolerable by inexcusably poor execution of an unnecessary but nice to have feature. I speak of the tweezers, which were a very minor selling point, but one I was looking forward to making occasional use of. Understandably, the tweezers were a bit on the flimsy side. What I could not understand was how the two sides could be so badly misaligned as to overlap by slightly less than half, which made them useless and very hard to insert or remove. The toothpick: not much better. Everything else: every bit as well made as I would expect from SOG at this price point.
If you have no intention of ever removing, let alone using the tweezers, than you may be very happy with the PowerDuo. If they had no tweezers, I would have been pretty happy with the PowerDuo.

1st off this thing is big. you put it on your belt you'd think you were caring a gun.
The screwdriver tips are a PIA to close back up with the little button provided.
The pliers are nice (more of an needle nose type) but that said you should be wearing gloves because the handle is tuff on
your fingers when applying any pressure. also there's allot of rough edges on the outside of this thing. I know it's a tool but it's not very hand friendly. I'm disappointed because I like most of SOG's stuff. I decided to keep it just because returns can be a pain. I'll probably wind up giving it as a gift or just throwing it in the glove box & forgetting about it.

Edit: I tightened every screw on the knife. It is now the perfect multitool for me to always have in my pocket. SOG loses one star for shipping a knife that wasn't in the best condition, but that's now my only complaint. In fact, I'm buying a second Powerduo as a back up in case they're discontinued before mine breaks.

SOG makes great knives and good multitools. I first found them when looking for a Father's Day gift a few years ago. I bought my dad a Powerlock multitool that's in his car emergency kit to this day. The Powerduo should have been a perfect fusion of their great blade design with a very functional multitool small enough to carry everyday, but poor fit and finish got in the way. The liners between the tools on my knife -and the can opener itself- have big side-to-side play problems. The tweezers made misaligned, the hex screws holding the knife together aren't fully tightened, and the blade was unevenly sharpened. Once I have a chance I'll tighten the loose screws and see if that fixes the tool/liner play. I've already bent the tweezers to shape, resharpened the blade, and trimmed the toothpick to a more useful shape. On the plus side, the tools are easy to access and do not clump. Both the blade and the tool lock operate smoothly. The pliers open with one hand and advertised and have a very functional needle nose taper. The plastic scale feel good in the hand and the tool is not too bulky with the pliers closed to be used comfortably as a knife. Overall I like it but am disappointed. I will be contacting SOG about their warranty if I cannot solve the problem with side play.
