An Ambitious Name for an Ambitious Knife
Aegis means "shield" or "protection" in Greek, and it is also the code name for both the world's premier integrated air defense system and the sea-based element of the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System. Thanks to SOG's thoughtful design features, this versatile knife lives up to its illustrious name. The knife opens to a full length of 8.25 inches, and its 3.5-inch half-serrated Tanto blade is crafted from AUS-8 stainless steel for improved strength and edge retention. You get the best of both straight and serrated blades with this design, and the Tanto shape of the blade offers an extra strong tip, while the black TiNi finish on this blade offers improved durability along with anti-reflective good looks.

Cryogenic Heat Treatment for a Sharp, Dependable Blade
SOG's unique cryogenic heat treatment process increases the toughness and wear resistance of the blade. The blade's temperature is slowly taken down to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit and then slowly brought back up to room temperature. This stress relieves the material on an atomic level and increases overall strength and edge retention. This means the knife edge stays sharp longer with significantly less micro-fracturing and edge-chipping.

SOG Assisted Technology Increases Speed, Safety, and Usability
When you start to open the AE-04's blade, SOG's patented S.A.T (SOG Assisted Technology) takes over and high-tension coil springs propel the blade the rest of the way open. This means fast, easy, one-handed access to the AE-04's blade whenever you need it.

Additionally, the unique design of S.A.T. offers security and peace of mind by incorporating locking mechanisms that are stronger, more reliable, and easier to access than other mechanisms. For Aegis Series knives, this means a safety on the side of the handle that delivers extra protection against accidental openings. When the safety is protecting you, its button shows green to confirm that you're ready to slip the knife in your pocket. When you switch the safety off, this button turns red to signal that your blade is ready for deployment.

Ergonomic, Slip-Free Grip Ensures Accurate Handling
This Aegis knife is designed to sit comfortably in either hand, and it's well-balanced for a natural feel that inspires confident cuts. SOG's trademarked, checkered DigiGrip handle provides a sure grip for safe, accurate positioning, while tacky rubber inserts in the handle offer extra anti-slip security. Plus this handle is crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel--a compound that's lightweight, abrasion resistant, and impact resistant.

The knife weighs in at just 3.1 ounces, and it includes SOG's trademarked bayonet clip, which allows the folded knife to ride securely and unobtrusively in your pocket when not in use. This clip is reversible, which means it can be positioned on whichever side of the knife is most convenient for you.

The SOG AE-04 Aegis Folding Knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

Made of AUS-8 steel with an attractive hardcase black TiNi finish, the 3.5-inch partially serrated, folding blade has a tanto shape with a very strong tip that's ideal for piercing, sharpens easily and makes quick work of any task. When you start to open the blade, SOG’s patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) takes over and high-tension coil springs propel the blade the rest of the way open for fast, easy, one-handed access. I have owned many knives in my day from C.R.K.T., Kershaw, Schrade, Benchmade and others and the SOG Aegis has jumped to the top of my favorites list. The blade is super sharp, beefy and light at the same time. The handle is nice and light with a very comfortable grip. The balance of the knife is just about dead center which means it feels light and fluid in the hand and feels comfortable in many different holding positions. The grips are textured but I do wonder how well I would be able to grip the knife with wet hands which could be a problem because of the force of the assisted opening. A flip of the thumb and the knife opens up very quickly with a good amount of force behind it. You need to have a good grip on the knife or I could see having trouble holding the knife due to the force of it's assisted opening. The arc lock system is nice and super solid. I can't see there being any chance of this knife closing by accident. I got this knife as mainly a utility knife to carry around every day but after getting it home and using it a bit I can see that it will be much more than just an every day utility knife. Although it is a little big to carry around daily this knife will not leave my side. Not only will it be a great utility knife but it will also be great for personal protection. A flick of the thumb and this bad boy it open and ready for any kind of action!

WOW! I can't even think of why anyone would give this knife anything other then a 5 star rating. First of all, This knife is the sharpest knife I have ever received out of the box from any company. It is so sharp you could cut yourself before you even know it, so be very careful. For the money you are not going to find a better knife in my opinion. It's well made, light weight and the clip allows for deep pocket carry. I would consider this an EDC knife if you live in a rural area (not really a city knife). Also would make a good self defense blade in a pinch, but that is just a personal opinion and I would never tell anyone to use a knife as a weapon.

Aegis is the perfect name for this knife. It is high quality and extremely able. If I had to protect myself from zombie ninjas and I didn't have a gun this would be my go-to weapon for protection. I have had this knife for well over a year and I carry it roughly everyday. Great Knife, Great Quality, Great Brand!

I am a big fan of SOG's knives and an even bigger one after purchasing this knife. I have owned many knives ranging from Smith & Wesson, Kershaw, Schrade, CRKT, Gerber to Benchmade. This is by far my favorite knife I own and my favorite SOG. I was in the looks for a new tactical knife for law enforcement applications but did not want to shell out the money for another Benchmade or similar high dollar knife. I have previously owned SOG's Flash, Flash II, Seal Pup, and Twitch knives. The Tanto blade was a must for its ability to puncture materials. I normally prefer half-serrated blades for their ability to cut through tougher objects such as seat belts or plants in the woods and vehicle upholstery.

The assisted opening on this knife is smooth and has a lot of force but is by far not the fastest opening knife I have used. I prefer Kershaw's speedsafe assist over SOG's. The thumb studs take some getting used to and require a little more force than I would like to open the blade, but it is extremely forceful and I can see it being exceptionally strong. After about a year and a half of use, their is a little blade play from side to side, but you can easily tighten the screws and make it less noticeable. The blades sharpness was unmatched by almost all of the knives I have bought. Out of the box I was extremely surprised when it easily cut a piece of paper in half in a straight line. The blade has a ridged area on the top where you can use it as an exacto knife. I use it in place of scissors many times because of how well it cuts.

I fortunately have not had to use it to cut seat belts or vehicle upholstery yet but I am positive when the need arises it will do the job well. I have used it many times in the woods to cut through thick plant stems/branches and no other knife I have has the strength or sharpness to cut through them. For a great tactical knife I strongly recommend the SOG Aegis.

This is the last knife youll ever need look at it that way. benchmade knives can cost up to a thousand dollars retail and look bland and as cool as a thousand dollar turd SOG is used by our military and our special ops units as well. Ive had at least twenty different pocket knives and this is the last one ill ever need. it has these ridges on th back of the blade you put your thumb on that gives you the precision of a exacto knife while cutting. go to benchmade knives official website and check out their insane prices. soldiers that fight for us use these knives and they know they have the best knife for any job. and that idiot that said the handle feels cheap dam really? If cheap you mean strong and lightweight and nearly unbreakable then you have no idea what your talkin about.

I just got this knife about a week ago from a friend. If you're reading this, Max, then this is one of the best gifts I've ever received, and the best knife I've ever had. Here's why. Out of the box, the knife was razor sharp... literally. I even tested that on myself, taking the time one night to shave my sideburns with it. That went off without a hitch. I made sure to clean the knife afterwards, because even quality like this must be carefully maintained. The assisted opener works well and would be very useful at times, for example a stressful situation, or if your hand is injured or cold. It's fast too. The knife is very light and carries low; perfect for EDC, and you get a lot of firepower for the weight. The AUS-8 blade will retain an edge well if used in light duty tasks, which is what this knife is designed to do, at least after defense. The handle is made with a TX8 sized torx bit construction, and the pocket clip is made of metal. The lockup is nice and tight, with only a hair of blade play, but that's to be expected on all spring assists. The actual locking mechanism, however, is not the strongest in the world. I'd say it's in the middle of the strength spectrum. However, it will serve you well in light duty tasks or a defensive role. If the knife is taken care of and not abused, it will serve you well for a long time. I would recommend this knife to anyone. In fact, when I get the money, I'll buy one of these for my girlfriend when I get one, assuming she likes blades of course.
