SOG Assisted Technology for Speed and Safety
Fast, safe, one-handed opening makes SOG Flash Series knives incredibly easy to handle in a wide variety of situations. Once you start opening the knife, SOG's Patented SOG Assisted Technology, or S.A.T., takes over. Through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs in the knife, the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force, and the blade will open on its own. This unique feature means that if you are using your dominant hand on another task, you can just as easily open the TFSA-98 with your other hand.

For security and peace of mind, S.A.T. was developed in conjunction with a superior locking system. The unique design of S.A.T. knives allows them to use locking mechanisms that are stronger, more reliable, and easier to access ambidextrously than conventional liner locks.

For Flash Series knives, this means the blade is held in place with a reliable piston lock that can be released quickly with a sliding button. An additional safety lock offers extra security when the blade is closed. For easy reference, the lock switch shows red when the knife is ready to open.

Cryogenic Heat Treatment for Sharp, Dependable Blades
Of course the workhorse of any knife is the cutting surface, and the TFSA-98 offers a full, 3.5-inch, half-serrated blade finished with an elegant black, hardcased TiNi, which is a durable titanium and nickel compound.

SOG's proprietary Cryogenic Heat Treatment process ensures that this blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and involves slowly bringing the blade's temperature down to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then bringing it slowly back to room temperature. The stress created through this process relieves the material on an atomic level and increases overall strength and edge retention.

Elegant, Ergonomic Design for Ease of Use
Even if your blade is sharp, it's hard to make the cuts you want if a knife doesn't sit comfortably in your hand. That's why the handle on this knife features a unique, ergonomic contour. Crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel, the handle helps ensure that your knife is both durable and well-balanced. And it is lightly textured to prevent slippage.

At just 3.1 ounces, this folding knife is lightweight and easy to carry. A reversible, bayonet-mounted clip extends from the back of the handle, allowing the knife to sit low in your pocket for the most discreet carry possible.

This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in workmanship and materials.

What's in the Box
TFSA-98 Flash II Half-Serrated Knife with a Black TiNi Finish

Product Description

SOG Flash II Partially Serrated Folding Knife. Perhaps one of the coolest knives you've ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button. The Flash II comes standard with glass-reinforced Zytel handle and 1/2 serrated blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG's patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. They also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed. More on S.A.T.: SOG Assisted Technology works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As one opens the blade the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force and the blade will open on its own. The end result propels the blade out once the operator has initiated the one-handed opening action. S.A.T. works so well that right-handers can use their left hand equally well to open a folding knife (of course this works oppositely for lefties). Blade length: 3.5" x .125"; Overall length: 8"; Weight: 3.1 oz.; Edge: Partially serrated; Steel: AUS 8; HRC: 57-58; Handle: Zytel; Finish: Hardcased black TiNi; Assembled in the USA. 5.0 out of 5 stars Jokes and boneheads aside, March 25, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TFSA-98 Flash II 1/2 Serrated, Black TiNi (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great knife. I have several SOG knives and this is the one I carry every day. Razor sharp and the serration near the base of the blade is great for cutting rope, etc. The deployment mechanism is as close to a switch that you'll find. A slight thumb pressure in an opening direction and it "flashes" open. I've NEVER had it open accidentally. And if you are paranoid, there is a small flip lock for that as well. The clip is extended and hides the knife just under your pocket rim but places it in optimum position for quick access. Light, strong and SOG quality. By the way, if you are thinking the Flash I is just a little smaller, it's not. It is a lot smaller, almost a toy compared to this medium sized all around all purpose utility/defense blade. Buy it! You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOG Knife Warranty is GOLD, September 24, 2009
This review is from: SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TFSA-98 Flash II 1/2 Serrated, Black TiNi (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have a SOG folder that is no longer produced. But this adjustable clip I just love. I broke the tip off my knife.

I was willing to pay to have it fixed because you can't get this SOG Knife model anymore.

I sent it to Warranty Repair asking them to replace the blade and I would pay for it.

Nope. They told me they were replacing the blade for FREE. Huh? This knife has to be about 7-8 years old with heavy heavy use. Regardless, they promptly called me (CALLED ME!) and stated the alloy was too brittle and I could get a replacement blade (my original was black, they were out of production) but a satin steel was available. Do it!!!

Yet, no questions, no hassle, they sent my knife back with a brand new RAZOR sharp blade.

SOG has a got customer locked-in for life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good knife, but some drawbacks, February 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TFSA-98 Flash II 1/2 Serrated, Black TiNi (Tools & Home Improvement)
First of all, the good things about this knife. #1 the locking mechanism is not in the direct path of the blade, you don't have to put your fingers in harms way when closing it. (start rant against linerlocks) Why the "liner lock" is so popular is one of those great mysteries of the world to me... at least put a button through the handle!! The idea of putting my finger where the blade will be folding to unlock is not my idea of a good design (end rant against linerlocks). THANKFULLY this knife is designed with the locking mechanism on the handle, where it should be.
The blade is sharp right out of the package, and it just looks cool! I like the fact the steel is AUS8, should keep a good edge. I'm a fan of serrated edges... they add more utility to a knife. If I'm in the bush and need to chop branches in a pinch, a serrated knife will do that. This knife has a nice sharp serrated edge for sawing through twigs, branches, reinforced cardboard, rope, packing tape, etc. The knife also has a locking feature, which I like to have on a everyday carry knife. It's very lightweight, so I think I'll keep it for hiking trips.
The assisted opening feature is very nice, I prefer it now. And hey, my box came with a sticker saying the knife is "Gunny Approved" by Mr. R. Lee himself. Can't go wrong there.
Now for the negative features... LOTS of blade wiggle. Too much for my liking. The locking switch is in an awkward place, hard to switch, and hard to get to with only one hand. Definitely not a one-handed opener. The belt clip is strong, too strong. I had to struggle to clip/unclip from my pants pocket. Definitely not a fan of the clip for everyday carry. Might be good for clipping on a backpack and knowing it won't fall off. Overall the blade seems very thin compared to my Benchmade Barrage 585, or even my Gerber FAST assisted opener.
I won't keep this knife for everyday carry, but I will probably use it for my hiking pack. AUS-8 steel, light weight, bionic-strength clip, and serrated edge makes it a decent backpack knife.
