Product Description

Product Description

The SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TW17-CP Twitch I is designed with intricate construction and stands out in its class, while still being a smaller, affordable knife that’s ideal for an everyday carry. Made of AUS-8 steel with an attractive satin finish, the 2-inch straight edge, folding blade has a drop point shape that sharpens easily and makes quick work of any task. This knife features a pass-through lockbar where the "kick" of the blade sticks through. By pressing on the "kick", you initiate the one hand opening of the blade and SOG Assisted Technology takes over using high-tension coil springs to finish opening and securely locking the open blade in place. The ergonomically contoured and well-balanced handle has a graphite finish and is made of anodized aluminum that will fit comfortably in your hand. A fixed pocket clip is located on the back of the handle that can also double as a money clip. This lightweight folding knife is easy to carry with a closed length of 2.75-inches, overall length of 4.75-inches, blade thickness of 0.1-inches and a weight of 2-ounces. The SOG Specialty Knives & Tools TWI7-CP Twitch I Knife with Straight Edge Folding 2-Inch AUS-8 Steel Blade comes with a limited lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials. Each SOG product is created with the help of company founder and chief engineer, Spencer Frazer. Known for their uncompromising style and performance, these knives and tools showcase innovation, dependability and a unique, futuristic style that has garnered awards and recognition worldwide. SOG products have also won favor among law enforcement, military and industrial customers that rely on their tools to perform flawlessly in the toughest, most adverse conditions.

From the Manufacturer

Looking at the intricate construction of the Twitches reminds us of the workings in a fine chronograph watch; everything right and precisely in its place. These techno wizards feature a pass-through lockbar (patent pending) from which the ¿kick¿ of the blade sticks through. By pressing on the ¿kick¿, one is able to initiate the opening of the blade. S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) then takes over to finish opening and to securely lock the blade open. What makes these space-age little gems even more beautiful is that they are also affordable!

Knife is Sharp. Smooth aluminum handle. Positive locking when opened. Knife was stiff when arrived, I oiled it and began to work it many times and it began to loosen. Indent on back of knife is not very deep where you press down to close. Spring is strong and diffucult to press and hold. Blade must be wiggled to complete the closing. This would be an excellent small knife if closer was better designed, or maybe I got a dud. I'll stick with Benchmade folders as they seem to be much better thoughtout and implemented in their design. They are my best made knives.

Update - lock spring has loosened a little more where it will close more easily now. Took a few weeks of working it.

Nice little knife. My first knife to start carrying around all day. Comes sharp out of the box. Use to open boxes, envelopes, cut odds and ends laying around. The assisted opening is cool, but beware I have had it open by itself when its clipped to my shorts and I've had it open in my pocket. So you should lock it before putting it away. Kinda of a pain. I like it, but once this thing wears out I'll be looking for something else.

Very well made little knife with spring assit opening and strong back lock. It has an extra lock for pocket safety, if needed, to keep it from popping open in the pocket. I have not had a need for this feature though.

I carry a SAK swisschamp as my usual EDC, but there are times when even that is too bulky. I needed something that could fit in dress pants or the inside of my suit pocket. Additionally, I wanted something easy to open that did not draw too much attention as EDC knives are frowned upon in my state (even small ones).

Enter the SOG Twitch 1. I ended up with this over the Twitch 2 or Blink due to it's small size (my other requirement was made in USA which all 3 are). It is perfect for what i need; opening of letters, cardboard boxes, and to carry when I'm out and about. There are two ways to open this; thumbstuds and kick. Both can be used as a lefty or righty and blow are extremely smooth. For a small knife, this has excellent weight to it and is very durable. The blade came very sharp right out of the box. There is also a deep-carry clip. It says removable but I use it.

It may not save your life in the jungle, but it will be used often if you carry it in your pocket as your EDC. You won't regret this purchase.

I bought this knife to replace my Spiderco Dragonfly that I had misplaced (but found the day after ordering this knife!). I was looking for something small and unobtrusive that would not weigh down my pocket and this knife exceeded my expectations. Came sharp out of the box; spring action has a great feel to it; I love the color/finish. The only complaints I have are very minute issues with the locking mechanisms. Overall, though, I am happy with this knife and would recommend it as an EDC pocket knife.

The Twitch I has two locking mechanisms, the first being a classic rocking lever "lockback" style that releases the blade from the open position. It does not affect the opening of the blade in any way. The second locking mechanism is a sliding safety directly below the lockback lever. The safety is intended to prevent unintentionally launching the spring assisted blade. The safety can lock the blade closed OR open. When locking in the open position the safety will prevent the lockback from being depressed and the knife will not close. This safety does not act automatically - it will only function when the user slides it to the locked position.

The first few times I opened the knife the lockback rocker was so stiff I had to use both hands and a heavy amount of pressure to push it in and rock the lever to release the blade. It felt like it was sticking into the groove and had to be forced "unstuck". However, this issue disappeared after playing with the knife for a few days. The sliding safety lock has a somewhat inconsistent feel compared to the rest of the knife. It is the only part of the knife that doesn't quite meet the supreme quality of SOG knives.

Great little pocket knife. I love this knife. I took the clip off and carry it daily in the small front pocket of my jeans. Opening a knife doesn't get much more fun than this. If you're even thinking about buying it, stop thinking and start doing.

This is a decent little knife. The weight and size is perfect for anyone looking for a real small knife for opening all your Amazon packages along with other small cutting tasks and the weight of only two ounces means it will totally disappear in a pocket without weighing you down. The blade has a nice drop point shape that's ideal for slicing. AUS-8 steel is a great choice here. It is a mid level steel that keeps an edge fairly well while still being a breeze to sharpen. The blade pops out quickly with the flipper or thumb studs and for those who want a safety, it has that too. I like how its out of the way so you can choose if you need it or not, I think not. Even on the super easy Buck Impulse, I have never needed the safety. In fact, on that knife I removed mine as the way Buck did it was horrible. Basically it was a spike on the handle that made the knife very uncomfortable. Low key on this Twitch is great. You can use it or ignore it, a nice touch. The knife came nice and sharp which is a surprise as I usually have to sharpen knives when I get them as most brands never come sharp enough for me, this knife was not the case. It made spaghetti noodles out of a page from a phone book with ease. Last but not least, I even like the pocket clip. No funny business like others enjoy doing it's just a good flat clip that will hook to your pants.

Now for the bad...

I agree that even though the flipper is fast, it requires to much pleasure to use. It's not super bad and on a bit larger knife it might be fine, but on this size it makes the knife harder to open since I can't get a great grip. Someone with smaller hands would probably not have this problem but I think most would want a softer flipper.
