I just got the SOG Aegis and frankly, I'm stunned at how amazing it is. SOG really raised the bar with this knife for sure. The website claims the knife weighs only 3.1 ounces...I am dumfounded how such a large assisted opening knife can weigh so little and still feel lightweight at the same time! The SOG Aegis has very few problems with it and will be the only EDC (every day carry) knife I use until my Ontario Rat 1 folder arrives.

Pros:
The name is AWESOME
Looks, this knife will win ALL of the beauty contests
SOG's SAT assisted opening is top notch
Blade is strong
One of the best factory edges out there
SOG's Arclock is rated at something like 1000 lbs of pressure so you can guarantee it won't close on your fingers
Clip is placed at the bottom of the knife so it doesn't interfere when opening the blade
Easily opens in either hand due to spring assisted opening
Safety switch is hard to engage accidentally
Extremely lightweight
Carry clip carries blade extra low in pockets
Jimping bites well into thumb
Blade is small enough for every day carry, but easily large enough to be used tactically
Handle is made out of Zytel, which is easily my favorite handle material. (and yes, I know what G-10 is)
It is very fun to open and close
When the screw is tight, the blade is secure and does not wiggle
The TiNi coating on the blade is very durable and protects the blade well


Cons:
The Aegis has a spear point blade with a really thin tip, so the tip is vulnerable to breaking
Price is a little more than most people are willing to pay for a knife but it's easily worth it
Your roommates will want to play with it nonstop

Trying my best to think of cons for this knife really made me realize how amazing this knife is. If you read my other reviews, even knives that I give 5 stars have at least 4 cons that I've noticed and the only knife I like as much as this is my SOG Seal Team Elite. The Aegis is a "must own" for all serious knife collectors and anyone who wants a great knife. I feel kind of bad for not being able to think up any cons for this knife, but there really aren't many. By the way, If you buy this knife you should also buy or own a 2mm hex wrench because it is good to tighten the knife it after every 500 opens or so.

Excellent knife. I wanted a good every day carry knife that wasn't too heavy and could be easily opened one-handed, as many tasks I need it for involve holding something as I open the knife.

The knife opens easily, and has a safety to prevent it from opening in your pocket if you're worried about that. It come sharp enough to shave, and holds an edge well.

It's not a big bruiser of a knife, but it's good enough for everyday use. I just wouldn't try to pry things with it too much.

This is a great blade. The blade shape is very useful. It is not the strongest alloy but it holds an edge quite well. the handle is beefier than in looks and feels quite secure in my hand. Tension for the assisted opening mechanism is just enough to be convenient and cool without being unnecessarily aggressive or being hard to close. the pocket clip features a nice design that allows it to be reversible and sit deep inside a pocket. I am not a fan of the SOG logo cut out in the clip but it is fairly inconspicuous in the black finish. It is a lot lighter than it looks due to not having steel liners. I find that this is a big plus for me. It sits light in my pocket while being strong enough for my needs. Since I am not in combat nor walking around looking for a knife fight, it is plenty strong enough. MSRP is too high but it can be had for a much lower price here on Amazon. I find it a good value.

Came sharp right out of the box. Light and strong. Good jimping. Very little side to side play, and you really have to push on the front of the blade to even get a slight hint of movement for up/down play. I am going to contact SOG on that since I don't know what constitutes a lot of blade play, but it seems normal to me. After the very little bit of up/down play, the blade doesn't budge. Don't want to put any more force behind it for fear I might bend/break something on the inside. Truly you don't need the safety because the knife stays put when closed, but it is still nice to have if you want it. Pocket clip is truly awesome, can't see the knife when in the pocket, and the bottom of the clip curls up so that you have something to tug on when pulling the knife out. Also provides a small place to grip for your bottom to fingers when opening the knife. Spring is very tight and provides good response all the way from close to open. As you use the knife, you will have residue of what you cut show up on the TiNi of the blade, but this does not look bad. All in all, a good purchase and recommended.

***Update*** My blade falls within the specs outline by the response of the SOG rep. Completely satisfied with this knife and VERY little blade play.

Hi,

When it comes down to blade play, some side to side and up and down will be normal. This will wear in over time but it should never be more than an 1/8 of an inch side to side or 1/16th of an inch up and down. If it is more, then we need the knife so we can take a look at it and see what is going on.

I highly recommend this knife. SOG quality, light weight, great assisted opening mechanism and sharp. Its light weight enough to carry in your front pocket and strong and big enough to take on wilderness backpacking trips. Get it, you won't be dissappointed.

This knife is light, sturdy, and very very sharp. Punctured my hand with ease. I'm ordering a smaller knife though for discreet pocket use, since this is quite large.

Its on the larger side and about as big as you would want for day to day. It is light and pretty solid. I use it primarily to open boxes and packaging.

A light weight fast opening easy to carry EDC(every day carry)knife.
At first it seemed a bit large for EDC but the way it carries in your pocket with the exeptionally deep pocket clip is outstanding, forgetting it's even there until I need it or remember it's there, easy and fast to open and close with one hand,very sharp right out of the box,extremely comfortable fit in my hand.I have larger hands and have had trouble with some of my other knifes being to small to hold and open and just don't feel like they could do more than open a letter or maybe a box.Not this Bad Boy I am very confident that this knife will be able to carry out almost every task I need a knife for,plus It's look is awesome, not to mention how fun it is just to open it.This has become my favorite EDC have had it about a month now and since my purchase I have not gone anywhere without it.It is now part of my everyday items wallet,keys,money,knife etc.I can't see anybody being disappointed with this knife I know it comes in other color combinations but for me this is the one.I carry it at work or were ever I go every day and no one has noticed it yet the all black hides it well just looks like a pen or something in my pocket Great Job SOG

first off id like to let everyone know that i got the knife a day early.... when does that ever happen? ok ok now about the knife, its blade shape is very nice, its wat sold me in the first place, the steel is decent and im sure it will do for most of its buyers. i love the pocket clip that makes the knife sit low since i wear it to work and i dont like people looken at the spyderco endura wave sticken outta my pocket... thats a awesome knife how ever i dont think the aegis is gonna replace it due to the sheer speed and simplicity of the knife. its very nice, and very light, that maybe is a good thing or a bad, to compare find a steak knife in ur house that has one of thouse plastic black handles, and thats how light its gonna feel. weight wise, some people thing it makes it feel cheap but i think its just the knife some people will hate or love... sog had great attention to detail with it as well.. buy one and see for urself...

SOG Aegis appears to be an extremely well made knife. Lightweight for all day carry, yet feels very solid when in your hand. The assisted open feature is excellent. Action feels very smooth, for a quick deployment of the blade. The safety to prevent the knife from opening accidentally is a great feature and a must have for a knife with assisted open. Overall a well designed and implemented knife and the Black TiNi finish to the blade is a really nice feature.
