The StarTech.com professional LAN installation tool kit provides all the necessary tools to install and test RJ45 networks, in a compact, handy, carrying case. The included Lantest Pro RJ45 LAN cable tester allows a single person to test several long cables faster and more efficiently than ever before. The tester uses remote loop-back plugs that each have their own unique ID number that the tester can identify. If several cables need to be tested, the user simply puts a loop-back plug on the end of each cable run and goes to the other end to test and identify each one. The tester provides a basic continuity test with a pin-map that will identify wiring errors, allowing them to be quickly corrected. It also identifies several common pinnings and displays the applications for each. (The Lantest pro requires a separate 9V battery that is not included to operate).
The combo crimp tool is specially designed for manipulating RJ-45 and RJ-11 connectors and saves valuable time and effort on any related cable job, while the wire stripper and punch down tools allow you to easily strip or seat wires into terminal blocks. Also included are 30 RJ11 connectors, 30 RJ45 connectors, and 24 boots for cable ends.

I'm a network admin who makes frequent train trips into New York City. I started a new job and was looking for a new set of networking tools. Yes, I could have gone Paladin for a much higher price, but I decided to give StarTech a shot. I was looking for a kit to crimp RJ-45, RJ-11 that came with a tester that could travel well. If you do some searching, finding this combo is not cheap. Even individually priced, the StarTech was cheaper. This kit also has a punch down tool with all the bits you need, not to mention a starter kit of RJ-45/11 ends and snagless covers to protect the prongs. If I could change one thing, I would have made the RJ-45 crimper a little stronger, but I've made plenty of cables, one of which I use every time I am at my home office desk, and it has been perfectly fine.
I highly recommend this product for those who need a crimper and cable tester, even more for those who do lots of traveling.
