The sol republic tracks HD headphones are superb compared to most similarly priced items on the market. For a cool looking pair of cans under $200 you won't find anything better.

COMFORT

These headphones utilize a new idea in the way cans are placed on the headband. They actually slide up and down the headband itself. Because of this you can even take them off and use the cans as two portable speakers. This more importantly makes the tracks HD more comfortable than any other on-ear headphone I have tried. The compression provided by the headband is not too loose or too tight.

QUALITY

The build quality on these headphones are fantastic. The headband (as I'm sure you have already read) is a virtually indestructible plastic, and the version used on the HD's is even more visually pleasing than the regular tracks. The cans are mostly covered in aluminum housings and feel very sturdy. The pleather on the ear pillows themselves is remarkably soft for such a material.

SOUND

The most important subject. I have sat and compared the sol republic tracks HD headphones with many kinds of sub-$200 headphones and this blows all of them out of the water. It's advantage over Skullcandy products is a more level EQ with a somewhat boosted bass. In other tests, the tracks HD sounded less muddy than most headphones in this relative price range. Overall, the tracks HD offer good highs that bring out the vocal track without becoming screechy, a decent mids section, and a booming bass that is slightly more subdued than on the regular version, giving a sweet bass thump to any track that has it.

Those looking for a Beats by Dre replacement/killer, look no further. Sol Republic has come out to play and right now their product is schooling their bigger competitor. I've had my pair since Christmas of 2011, and I'm extremely happy with them. They're extremely comfortable and sound great, not to mention they look great.

Some interesting history on the company, Sol Republic. Their head is the son of Noah Lee, Founder and CEO of Monster (the people who make Beats by Dre) so there's a similar sound balance between the Tracks HD and the Beats. However, that's where the similarities end. The Tracks are so much better for the price it's not even funny, well it might be actually.

Key features:

- Big bass without drowning out much of the treble.

Of course you can always play with the EQ settings to get your preference (On an iPod, try the "Rock" setting). Of course this isn't close to a 1000$ pair of Sennheisers, but it's pretty damn good for a 110$ (It was actually 130$ originally, so amazon buyers have lucked out a bit). Then again it's so much better than standard earbuds, you can hear so much more of the track. Plus you don't leak out sound because it's on ear (which isn't bad at all for those who like over ear).

-"Indestructible" headband

Nothing is truly "indestructible", but the headband is pretty close, it can bend to an unbelievable angles for a headphone headband. However, don't be an idiot and actually try to break the thing. The advantages for this feature is that it can fit almost any head width without snapping or warping, and you'll have some relief stuffing it into a bag. Also be careful showing off the flexibility of it, it can snap back and damage the drivers, which leads me to my next feature.

DISCLAIMER! My pair has yet to completely burn in, so my review is based on how they sound on first impressions.

Also, if you have bass heavy headphones, make sure you don't listen to them for several hours on high volume, as that much bass over time WILL worsen your hearing (I haven't had bass heavy headphones like these in a while, and my ears are tired after only a couple hours of use on a decent volume level).

First, I want to clarify that this is my first pair of these new wave of headphones (such as the Beats), as I have mostly used studio monitor headphones for mixing and listening to music.

Pros: Stylish, heavy bass compared to other regular headphones, detachable headphone amps ("sound engines"), detachable audio cord, virtually indestructable headband (also switchable), great price compared to Beats, loud compared to ear bud headphones, comes with a carrying pouch, sound leakage is minimal at full volume (although there is enough leakage to prevent these from being used as playback in a recording studio.

Cons: NOT applicable for music production, highs are muffled compared to studio monitors (Shure srh440, Sony MDR-V6000, Sennheiser HD280 Pro), bass is exaggerated, the overall frequency spectrum is biased to the mids and lows, not flat at all. Not extremely comfortable if you wear glasses. Sound isolation/cancellation is not very good, but if you have music playing then you won't notice outside noise much, in line control feels cheaply built (I cannot comment on call quality as I have not yet tested it)

For the average person, these are a GREAT pair of headphones. They give off great bass, decent highs, and are loud enough to block out most outside sounds.
