5.0 out of 5 stars glad I found where to buy this online!
I had posted review under the three pack but saw this single one and had to share here as well. I initially bought only one but now have bought many I liked it so much. Actually wrote the company! I am SO happy to not have the mess and fuss and space charcoal takes. It was simple to use and cooked great! It was the topic of our BBQ we were so pleased with it. There is a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Fail! If you're going to bother to grill, respect the food and use authentic fuel
Background: I grill a lot - mainly on gas, but lately, on charcoal. I just purchased a "Portable Kitchen" grill here on Amazon. I also am starting to enjoy slow smoked BBQ, such as a pork shoulder I smoked recently.

A family member bought a Flamedisk at retail to use for our Memorial Day picnic. So my thought when I saw this thing is "WTF?"

I am SO happy to not have the mess and fuss and space charcoal takes. It was simple to use and cooked great! It was the topic of our BBQ we were so pleased with it. There is a FlameDisk sitting here to give to a friend , I like it that well, I have been sharing them! Also it hid the burnt out spot on my old grill! (often public grills have holes in the bottom) I think it will not burn up my new grill bottom as charcoal did.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, June 8, 2010

This is an awesome, revolutionary product! Very easy to use, and much easier to pack than a big bag of messy charcoal and a [smelly] bottle of lighter fluid (which I'm always afraid will end up spilling in my trunk). We were able to cook two batches of thick Angus beef 1/3 lb patties and a batch of hotdogs, and it still hadn't burnt out, so you can certainly get enough cook time in. Lights VERY easily. So easily, I didn't think it could be actually lit at first, but that it "sounded" lit, and, sure enough, within seconds I saw flames. Great flame-broiled taste--couldn't tell the difference from charcoal. Plus, no ash flying around or piling up in mounds, and you don't have to wait for the coals to "cook down". When we were done, we just poured a little water on it, and let it cool while we finished eating, and it was cool enough and contained enough to be able to put in a plastic bag (at a take-your-own-trash-out state park). Great product. I don't see why I'll ever go back!
I posted a video on the 3-pack listing, if you'd like to see the Flamedisk in action! (It was super windy, and the park grill wouldn't turn.)

Purchased the flameDisk in the store - WE LOVED IT!! So easy to use and cooked our food completley! I have now gone back several times, but the store seems to be out? I have now looked online and will purchase a bunch! It is great for boating, we took the kids out tubing and needed to stop for a quick dinner - pulled up on shore and we cooking in minutes!

When you peel the adhesive paper off of the disk, you see what looks like the waxy looking white stuff that a gel candle is made from. (A review advises that the thing is loaded with "solid ethanol". And my niece quipped, "oh, good, we're going to grill over a citronella candle." :) )

Lighting is easy enough - it takes right off. It burns somewhat like hard liquor or sterno, with a low transparent flame.

We lit the disk in a small Char-Broil kettle grill (a clone of the Weber Lil' Smokey) and we waited a couple of minutes for the entire disk to burn steadily and things to heat up.

We placed five 4 oz. burgers on the grate, along with a couple of brats. The small cooking area was packed but I had no thought that this was a problem.

A while into the cooking process (about 10 minutes), the disk went entirely out. FAIL!

All we could determine is that the burger drippings put out the fire. The stuff was pretty much done at that point, anyway. It lasted about 15 minutes and not the 45 minutes claimed.

Everything was flavorless, without much of a seared flavor. There is an enormous flavor difference between cooking on this stuff, and cooking on charcoal. And you still have some mess to deal with with Flamedisk, namely, the used disk.

The economics of these gadgets are idiotic: for the price of three disks you could buy a small bag of charcoal (good for several meals) and a budget chimney starter.

If you want convenience, buy a disposable charcoal grill. Or use gas if you don't want to deal with burning anything solid.

This thing is the illegitimate offspring of charcoal and gas, lacking the cost effectiveness of gas and the flavor of charcoal but with more mess than gas.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, March 8, 2010

I bought a few of these, on clearance, at a local grocery. It seems like a great idea, but they worked very poorly; one wouldn't stay lit, another didn't get hot enough to grill burgers. All and all, a pretty useless product. I guess there is the possibility that I got old products. Maybe, they lose power with age, but I couldn't find any product dates on the boxes.
