5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written thriller with an other-worldly plot!, May 2, 2006
This review is from: Some Go Haunting (Paperback)
Brian Hurst is a wonderful author and an amazing psychic medium. He was my mentor, and changed my life in a very positive way over twenty years ago when I first went to him for a reading, then began attending his group readings and having private ones done once a year or so. He inspired me to go on to study and become a medium, and now this book has inspired me yet again!

"Some Go Haunting" is a well-crafted thriller, with daring plot twists. Brian's characters have distinctive, unique personalities; his use of dialogue, detailed description and exciting plot twists make this a real page turner! Great take on reincarnation, karma and the paranormal. Wonderful, Brian - Bravo!

Meet adopted English teenager Richard Buchanan who not only has to rescue his girlfriend Debbie from an abusive father, but is troubled by nightmares in his new home. Unhappily adopted, he seeks the true identity of his parents?
Richard's older sister, Barbara, must also deal with the tragic loss of her young fiance John, killed in a motor cycle accident. Can a medium make spiritual contact with him and is John possibly earthbound?
Menopausal Edith Buchanan hates the isolation of her hilltop country home, is angry with Richard for being put on probation and is traumatized by her husband's sudden ill-health. When spooky events occur at "High Hearty," Edith is the arch-skeptic, seeking a rational explanation for everything.
Along comes Don Kramer, an American schoolteacher from the local U.S. Airbase. He is apparently a student of psychic research and he witnesses some puzzling events at the house. He is also intrigued by Barbara. Can he touch her grieving heart and also assist the family in their pain?
Debbie's mother, Win Mayhew, is trapped in an abusive marriage to a gambling, alcoholic farmworker. How can Stanley Mayhew, lusting for his own daughter, deal with his demons? Can beautiful, fifteen-year-old Debbie, desperate to escape her violent home, open Richard's heart to an unselfish and caring love?
What secrets lie in the blocked-up basement of the house and who was the mysterious woman resident there in 1916? What strange power does she still exert over the occupants and why is she one of the unquiet dead?
The challenging events portrayed in this English mystery lead to major catharsis for all and ultimately a better understanding of self and a happy ending.

More About the Author

BRIAN EDWARD HURST (1938 - )was born in Huntingdon,Cambridgeshire,UK. He won a scholarship to the London Guildhall School of Music & Drama, appeared in several stage productions, worked for The Law Society, traveled widely and taught English in a London school and also in Ahmedabad, India for 2 years. In 1980 he left England for California, where he attended California State College in San Bernardino. His work with the Spiritualist Movement in England was well-known and he continued his psychic demonstrations in California. His work with Doris Tate, mother of the murdered movie star Sharon Tate led him to work with Parents of Murdered Children and other bereavement groups. He appeared on a TV show "The Other Side" with Dr. Will Miller and in a Margaret Wendt Production "Beyond Death" where he was one of the featured mediums. He also had a favorable writeup in the Los Angeles Times Magazine. The TV show "Hard Copy" did not attack his work but credited him with real ability to communicate with deceased loved ones. His first novel "Some Go Haunting" went through 3 editions, the latest one having an extended final chapter with a different and more satisfying ending. His Autobiography "Heaven Can Help" tells of his struggles to find himself, his friendships and sittings with some outstanding physical and mental mediums, and his evaluation of his own contributions to psychic research.
As an internationally known 'sensitive' Brian Edward Hurst has received inspired spirit writings, some of which won first prize at California State College, San Bernardino in 1981. These have now been published as "Cinderella's Secret and other Classical Poems" Now officially retired, the author hopes to produce further works of interest and to continue with his artwork. During his very successful career as a medium, the author met thousands of people of every race, color and creed, earning their love and respect and a large following. "Heaven Can Help" has already sold hundreds of copies worldwide and the mystery thriller "Some Go Haunting" will (the author predicts) one day be turned into a successful movie.
