"SONAR Power!" is the first book to deal with SONAR, the new multi-track editing and mixing software from Cakewalk. This book covers getting started with SONAR, recording and playback, composing with loops, composing with MIDI, using software-based synthesizers, and making sheet music. It focuses on how to help professional and home-hobbyist musicians use the software to make their composing and recording sessions run more smoothly.
Scott R. Garrigus (www.garrigus.com). I began my musical journey at the age of 12 when my parents got me my first computer, the Atari 400. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with making music using technology. I spent one Summer working at a Daddy's Junky Music store and purchased my first electronic keyboard: the Roland JX-8P. Then after taking some music theory courses in high school and some private keyboard lessons, I was hooked even more.
I decided to pursue a career in music and audio engineering, which led me to earn a B.A. in music performance with an emphasis in sound recording technology. A couple years later (1993), I released my first instrumental album on cassette, entitled Pieces Of Imagination. Then in 1995, my career took a bit of a twist' I began my professional writing career when my first articles appeared in Electronic Musician magazine.
I never really intended to become a writer, but found I had a talent for explaining things in a clear and organized manner so that anyone could understand the information - even if it was highly technical. So in 2000, I authored my first book, Cakewalk Power! and I've been writing ever since. To date, I have written over 12 books and continue to contribute articles to a number of print and online publications. I also publish my own music technology newsletter, called DigiFreq (www.digifreq.com), which provides free information for home recording and professional music technology users all over the world.
