More About the Author

Scott R. Garrigus (www.garrigus.com). I began my musical journey at the age of 12 when my parents got me my first computer, the Atari 400. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with making music using technology. I spent one Summer working at a Daddy's Junky Music store and purchased my first electronic keyboard: the Roland JX-8P. Then after taking some music theory courses in high school and some private keyboard lessons, I was hooked even more.

I decided to pursue a career in music and audio engineering, which led me to earn a B.A. in music performance with an emphasis in sound recording technology. A couple years later (1993), I released my first instrumental album on cassette, entitled Pieces Of Imagination. Then in 1995, my career took a bit of a twist' I began my professional writing career when my first articles appeared in Electronic Musician magazine.

I never really intended to become a writer, but found I had a talent for explaining things in a clear and organized manner so that anyone could understand the information - even if it was highly technical. So in 2000, I authored my first book, Cakewalk Power! and I've been writing ever since. To date, I have written over 12 books and continue to contribute articles to a number of print and online publications. I also publish my own music technology newsletter, called DigiFreq (www.digifreq.com), which provides free information for home recording and professional music technology users all over the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book I've been looking for., August 11, 2001
By
This review is from: SONAR Power! (Paperback)
OK, I sprung for the SONAR XL upgrade, added more ram, hard disk, faster cpu and all that jazz but kept banging my head trying to do some of the things in Cakewalk's blurb sheets that encourage you top buy in the first place. Scott to the rescue !!! As in Cakewalk Power, the first of Scott's books, Sonar Power picks up where the CW manual leaves off and goes beyond merely describing which toolbars and radio buttons do what. Instead, Scott gives you real world type scenarios and takes the vantage point of a musician talking to other musicians. Sonar is way kewl and Sonar Power helps to lower that learning curve. Then we can all get back to making music, a little faster maybe, with a heck of a lot more creative tools in the arsenal, and certainly better sounding overall. The time savings alone are worth the price of this book. Anyone looking to really wring out this program needs to read SONAR POWER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonar Power is Superb !, August 13, 2001

This review is from: SONAR Power! (Paperback)
Sonar Power is written to be understood on the first reading not the third or fourth like the manuals, also it is laid in a fashion to actually be comprehended.....no glazed over mind farts here, just plain old english and wonderful insights. I dont own Soungforge software but Im going to buy Scotts book on it anyway just because Scott knows how to relate the details at ground level and beyond...what a relief to find someone who KNOWS what they're talking about and has the given talent to express it in simple terms.

5.0 out of 5 stars easiest book ive ever read...., January 26, 2002
This review is from: SONAR Power! (Paperback)
Scott R. Garrigus' soundcard setup is a delta 66 and SBLive card. its the exact setup that i have. Scott wrote the book in plain english so that even a not so computer literate person can understand whats going on. even if you've never used a computer music recording program before, Scott makes it simple....
