More About the Author

Scott R. Garrigus (www.garrigus.com). I began my musical journey at the age of 12 when my parents got me my first computer, the Atari 400. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with making music using technology. I spent one Summer working at a Daddy's Junky Music store and purchased my first electronic keyboard: the Roland JX-8P. Then after taking some music theory courses in high school and some private keyboard lessons, I was hooked even more.

I decided to pursue a career in music and audio engineering, which led me to earn a B.A. in music performance with an emphasis in sound recording technology. A couple years later (1993), I released my first instrumental album on cassette, entitled Pieces Of Imagination. Then in 1995, my career took a bit of a twist' I began my professional writing career when my first articles appeared in Electronic Musician magazine.

I never really intended to become a writer, but found I had a talent for explaining things in a clear and organized manner so that anyone could understand the information - even if it was highly technical. So in 2000, I authored my first book, Cakewalk Power! and I've been writing ever since. To date, I have written over 12 books and continue to contribute articles to a number of print and online publications. I also publish my own music technology newsletter, called DigiFreq (www.digifreq.com), which provides free information for home recording and professional music technology users all over the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best Sonar book, November 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: SONAR 2 Power! (Paperback)
Scott is the reigning Sonar guru, and this book is a great value for the price. There's plenty of content, and it's all clear, concise and useful. Sonar's help system and manual are already good, but a little dry ... so Scott adds value by clarifying some issues, and by offering a different, user-friendly perspective. To Scott's credit, he does far more than simply regurgitate Sonar's help system.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any Sonar user!, June 2, 2003
By
Peter "Peter" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SONAR 2 Power! (Paperback)
Sonar 2 Power! is an excellent book. It is, by far, the best book available on Sonar, and a must have for anyone who uses Sonar. I have found it was great for intitially getting up to speed on the software. And now that I know the software much better, it is still full of tons of helpful information. Sonar 2 Power! lets you quickly dive right into those features you are interested in. Best of all, the author, Scott Garrigus, is able to make learning quick and enjoyable. It is clear that Scott has a great deal of enthusiasm for making music using his computer and Sonar; he does a very good job of getting this enthusiasm across, which makes the book all the more enjoyable to read. The author has a Website...for his readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 Users as well!, October 28, 2003

This review is from: SONAR 2 Power! (Paperback)
This is a good book for Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 (and XL) users as well, because Home Studio 2004 is basically the same as Sonar 2 with a few missing features that Home Studio 2004.

I did a comparison of it to my recently acquired 2004 XL upgrade and other than the synchronization function, a couple of UI changes (Snap to Grid button changed locations), and a few effects that Home Studio XL doesn't give you, everything works identical to the Sonar 2 version in the book.

I haven't read the Cakewalk Power Book, but I did notice it looked thinner on the shelves than Sonar 2, and chose to buy Sonar 2 because I thought it was more comprehensive. I've been very happy about the purchase and what I've learned about Home Recording.
