Misleading Album Title,
This review is from: SONIA Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The title of the album entitled "Sonia Greatest Hits" is totally misleading. The album does not have all her most well known and popular "hits." There should be some kind of criteria and guidelines as to when record companies will use the words "greatest hits." I am very disappointed.

Where are all the other hits?,

They finally put out a Greatest Hits, but excluded the PWL and Carlton Sounds material. The only hits here are from the Simon Cowell years at BMG Records(back before he got involved with 19 Entertainment and American Idol). Even the non album singles are missing. This isn't a true greatest hits until it has all the singles, from all the albums(on various labels). For now we'll call it a 'Best of the BMG years' album.Hit Singles "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" (1989) - #1 UK, #29 Australia; "Can't Forget You" (1989) - #17 UK; "Listen To Your Heart" (1989) - #10 UK; "Counting Every Minute" (1990) - #16 UK; "You've Got A Friend" (with Big Fun) (1990) - #14 UK; "End Of The World" (1990) - #18 UK; "Only Fools (Never Fall In Love)" (1991) - #10 UK; "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" (1991) - #22 UK; #13 US A/C "You To Me Are Everything" (1991) - #13 UK; "We've Got The Power" (1992) (with Gladiators) "Boogie Nights" (1992) - #30 UK; "Better The Devil You Know" (1993) - #15 UK; "Hopelessly Devoted To You" / "The Anthem Medley" (1994) - #61 UK; "Wake Up Everybody" (1995) - #155 UK.

Worth Owning,

Most reviewers are right in that Sonia's "biggest" SAW hits aren't here, but I actually preferred the songs on her second and third albums because they aren't as overtly "poppy" as on the first record. For those who don't have her music -- her discs are long out of print -- this is a solid collection of her post-Stock Aitken Waterman work.

Not the greatest hits,

I am a huge Sonia fan, and even though I'm glad these songs are re-released on CD, this is definately NOT a greatest hits compilation! They don't include any of her biggest Stock Aitken Waterman produced hits from 1989-1990, which are her best tracks. So skip this compilation and buy Cherry Pop's re-release of her 1990 album "Everybody Knows" instead. It's much better!

The songs are great fun, although many of them are too similar. Still, I very much enjoyed the CD.

Cheap issue of a useless CD,
By Star De Luxe "WickedChild" (Versailles, France) - See all my reviews

More useless, you die! Why the hell they are calling this a "Greatest Hits"?? This CD is a pure joke! There is not even her biggest hit "You'll never stop...". Moreover, they tried to cheat on us with the PICTURES from the HITS period! When you look at the picture on that sleeve, it's nothing more than a "You'll never stop me..." 1989 shot! The consumer can easily remember her and rush to buy that item... but...surprise! Not any tracks, you'll remember... :-(Releasing a G.H. without the hits is simply shameful. Well, we suppose that Sonia did not manage to obtain the rights of the PWL tracks, but that does not give her the right to release that kind of item and mostly to call it "Greatest Hits" especially when she knows that her fame was mostly during the late 80's, early 90's era (part NOT including in that package). Anyway, you can however get the BMG tracks/singles from her self-titled '92 album as well as her third and last original studio LP to date: "Better the devil you know". |
