5.0 out of 5 stars Good Player Good Price
This DVD player (Sony DVP-NS300B DVD Player) has it all and more! It has both DTS and Dolby Digital outputs with a choice of Coaxial (RCA type connector) or Optical digital outputs. You also get 2 pairs of Analog outputs (RCA type connectors). On the video side you get 3 choices: Component-video, a pair of Composite-video outputs and a pair of S-video outputs. This unit...

You also get 2 pairs of Analog outputs (RCA type connectors). On the video side you get 3 choices: Component-video, a pair of Composite-video outputs and a pair of S-video outputs. This unit can deliver up to 530 lines of video horizontal resolution. The Remote is multibrand but naturally works with all Sony Televisions. The best feature, which I find very convenient, is that I can access the menu directly on the front panel (as well as the remote). This is one of the best units on the market for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD player, November 23, 2001

This review is from: SONY DVP-NS300/B DVD Video Player (Black) (Electronics)
This is a great DVD player. I have had it for about two months and have not had a single problem with it. It has only skipped once but that was due to a scratch on a rental disc. If you want a DVD player that is a good price and works well, this is the player for you. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent low-end model!, September 16, 2001

This review is from: SONY DVP-NS300/B DVD Video Player (Black) (Electronics)
I'm not quite sure why the star rating on this product isn't higher, because I've only had great experiences with my player. This is the first DVD player I've owned, and it has performed wonderfully. The picture is great, the sound is fantastic, and it has always played every DVD I put in without a problem. I've had it now for 2 months and used it often.
I agree with the first review that the downside is the remote, which doesn't glow. However this is a minor annoyance, with the quality of the product for the price. Another con I've noticed is that once the disc is in the tray, it's not completely silent. You can hear it spinning and sometimes change chapters. BUT, it is barely noticeable, especially if your player is behind closed glass doors.
If you're looking for a high-end model with every feature you desire and want it to perform perfectly, then you have no choice but to pay more. However, this model is perfect for those that can't spend a lot but still want their DVD player to work. I think the Sony brand is trustworthy and I would highly recommend this player.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent consumer unit., January 28, 2002
This review is from: SONY DVP-NS300/B DVD Video Player (Black) (Electronics)
This is an excellent DVD player for the average person. It is easy to use, a snap to install, and plays DVD's well.

It offers both analog and digital output so hooking it up to your surround sound receiver is a breeze. The optical out provides Dolby 5.1 output making the home theater sound you want from a dvd player.

The only real drawback I've found is the fact that it doesn't play MP3s like many of the competing models. Adding that feature would round out this player and make it top of the line.

Over all I'm very happy with the player and would recommend it to any of my friends or family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good DVD Player, December 17, 2001

I have been reading a lot about other DVD players skipping and freezing up. I have never had that problem with this DVD unit. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know that DVD's skipped or froze until reading reviews of other products.

I know that there are thousands of more expensive, more featured DVD units on the market, but this one is great for the money.

I bought this unit last summer and initially, I was very happy with it. But, the more and more I use it, the more problems I find with it. The most obvious problem I've found is the streaking. In scenes where there is repeated, rapid change from dark to light, the player displays colored straks momentarily across the screen. Most noticable during scenes like the scene in "Aliens" when the aliems attack the marines in force inside a room lit in red. The gunflashes constrasting against the red light cause the DVD player to render the scene horribly. The whole scene is so marred by these lightning-like color flashes that it is nearly unwatchable.
Another noticable problem is it's susceptability to scratches. My copy of "seven" got scratched when I loaned it out to someone (who BTW, will never borrow my DVDs again). The scratches are not bad, but this player rewinds to the beginning of the movie whenever it encounters the scratch. Granted, a scatched disc is not the players fault, but my computer and PS2 can play the disc without interruption. They can also play movies without the streaks. The other problems I've encountered were minor such as the rather weak remote and confusing interface at times.
On the plus side, the unit is very compact and weighs very little, so if you have to move it around alot you won't break your back. I also like the selection of connectors you get on the back for the price you pay.
If I had the money to buy a DVD player all over again, I would definately consider looking for something else. This players shortcomings are too great to justify buying it when there are superior players available for about the same cost.

3.0 out of 5 stars It worked great ..... until................, July 16, 2004

This DVD Player was great, a 5 star marvel until 3 days ago, and now it doesn't work at all. "No Disc," it says, and the next thing you know, it's not a matter of a smudged disc, as I cleaned it. It's not a DVD-RW, it was the movie, Grosse Point Blank. Then the Big Lebowski. Then Independence Day, Face/Off, and the list grows. No warning, no signs, just suddenly, "NO DISC."

I don't know what the life expectancy of a Sony DVD Player is, but I have to believe it is more than 18 months.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed sony custumer, December 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: SONY DVP-NS300/B DVD Video Player (Black) (Electronics)
My father purchased the sony DVPNS300 DVD player for my daughter's 21st BDay at the end of Jan. 2002. She is in college
so she used it a total of 6 times. It stopped working when she
came home for Thanksgiving. We did all the troubleshooting on
our end including using different dvds and different tvs and different wires. It does not recognize the dvd. I have called
the store that it was purchased. No luck. I called Sony and
was told I have to send it out to PA and it would cost $90.00 plus the S & H charges. I will buy another brand for the same amount of money. We were a Sony family- now I will not buy another Sony product. Also the same dvd player is on sale for
$90.00 online. It's not worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Dvd player for the money, November 2, 2001
By
This review is from: SONY DVP-NS300/B DVD Video Player (Black) (Electronics)
I did alot of research on dvd players before I bought this one for my wife for her birthday and I have to say this is the best one out there under 200 bucks. I decided on this one for the features, price and the sony name. You will not go wrong if you purchase this machine. I am thinking of buying another one for the bedroom.

This is my first DVD I have ever purchased. I must say I am happy with the performance and the quality it gives. Remote is kinda small. I recommend to anyone who wants a DVD under $200. and a simple one just for the bedroom. Go out and get yours today!
