Velocity modulation (selectable: off, high, low) improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The set's three-line digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).
Top-of-the-line component-video inputs minimize digital and line-scan artifacts from compatible video sources, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience; you can label the set's video inputs and channels for easy selection. A rear AV output offers a direct connection with a VCR or personal digital video recorder (PVR).
The set pumps out 7.5 watts per channel, and onboard matrix surround sound simulates surround through any two speakers. A headphone jack lets you listen in private. Other video technologies include auto white balance, Dynamic Picture Processor circuitry, tilt correction, Trinitone color temperature control, and vertical aperture compensation.

Really good picture and sound,

This review is from: SONY KV-24FS100 24-Inch Trinitron(R) Color TV (Electronics)
I recently replaced my deceased TV and antiquated VCR on the same day (and also acquired my first-ever DVD player), and, as always, I did a fair amount of consumer research before laying out my money. I have no pretensions to a home theater system, nor do I feel the need of a huge screen in my den, so I went with the highly-rated models from CONSUMER'S REPORTS. I've had Sony TVs in the past, so I felt comfortable with its reputation. This TV set up very easily and the menu procedure was pretty intuitive. The flat screen makes for a really nice picture and the sound is quite respectable. It's been about three months now, and everything seems to be working just fine. (The previous reviewer may just have gotten a lemon.)
