4.0 out of 5 stars good player, April 28, 2002
This review is from: SONY Portable AM/FM Cassette Player (WM-FX241) (Electronics)
this tape player is pretty good. It has lots of features and an anti-roll thing for action or bumpy rides. I dont know why it has this metal tape thing, they are not around anymore, in fact, they havent been around for at least 10 years. Lots of presets and digital tuning eliminates the guesswork of manual dial tuning.
Battery low light is a good feature, as opposed to the LED lights on others that are useless. ....This is one of the more high-end recorders, i would reccomend this for an all-around purpose cassette player. Worthy of a buy.
Ratings:

Radio Recpetion...9/10
The radio quality is very good on FM, but only if you leave it on the DX. On local there is unbleivble hissing and static, but on DX the quality is crystal clear. AM recption is mediocare, but I rarely use it

Tape quality... 10/10
The tape quality is perfect, even on old and dusty tapes. 25 hours of tape playback is very nice. Simple, easy controls for the tape. Easy, simple, and good quality.

Ease of use...9/10
It comes with a protective case that clips onto you pocket or belt or whatever. The buttons dont stick out too much, and dont get pressed with the hold feature.

Overall...9.5/10
Very nice player for all purpose

1.0 out of 5 stars How I go through a million batteries, August 19, 2002

Buy this walkman and you will find out...the buttons to turn the radio on are on the front. If you throw the walkman in a book bag or purse or wherever, the buttons are sensitive enough to turn the radio on without you knowing. So, you go through a million gazillion batteries.

Another feature that is missing and can't figure out why it isn't included is continuous tape playing. Once the tape is over on side 1, it doesn't flip over to side two. If you are walking and listening to a tape, then you have to pull it out of the belt clip holder, flip over the tape and continue listening.

I usually love Sony products, but this is one of the blunders they have made.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Player to Carry Around Wherever You Go, February 23, 2003

This review is from: SONY Portable AM/FM Cassette Player (WM-FX241) (Electronics)
This Sony Walkman WM-FX241 has digital tuning with 40 digital station presets (10AM/30FM). Other features include direct band selector, auto scan tuning preset. A word to the wise, it has up to 25 Hours* of battery life. Takes 2 AA batteries.

Accessories that come with the walkman are stereo headphones and a vinyl visible front carry case with plastic belt clip. Function features are radio AM/FM buttons, Off, presets, tuning, hold (only locks the radio controls) and mega bass. Tape player features Play, Rewind, FF, Stop. Only problem the tape player doesn't have the reverse mechanism for playing a tape from side to side without taking the tape out and turning it over. Other controls are for tape type (NORM*CrO2/Metal), broadcast reception (DX*Local) and AVLS (NORM*Limit, contols volume from max to min to protect your ears).

In my honest opinion it's a nice little gadget for taking on jogs, walks, work or classes. CAUTION: The OFF button can easily be turned on. So be careful how you store it or just remove the batteries when not using it is my suggestion. Maybe Sony should have stuck with the old model types where the buttons were on the sides of the player and not the facing.
