Product Description

Charge your cell phone and light the way when you need it most. For travel, auto/boat, outdoors and emergencies.

What would you do in an emergency situation only to have no power on your mobile phone? How many times have you reached for your flashlight just to find the battery dead, especially during a power outage?

SOS Charger is the perfect solution for these scenarios and more! Compact, small and reliable, the SOS Charger is powered by you-simply wind the handle to generate the power needed to make a quick call, send a text message, and light the way!

Fast reliable charging, powered by YOU:

Recharging your mobile phone or USB-powered device (such as Bluetooth headsets) is as simple as turning the handle. Rotating the handle in either direction outputs stable, voltage-regulated power to your mobile phone or other mobile device.

Super-bright 3 LED Flashlight:

Winding for 60-seconds provides up to 30-minutes of continuous light. Rechargeable internal power cell allows simultaneous flashlight use and device charging. Flashlight operates in three power settings:

Full power (3-LED Mode) outputs super-bright light

Energy saving (1-LED Mode) bright light with lower energy consumption

SOS Mode (Flashing LED Mode) flashes to get attention

Mobile Phone adapter pack included:

Compatible with most modern phones with included adapters for BlackBerry, Nokia, LG, Samsung, Motorola, Sony-Ericsson and other brands that utilize mini-USB or micro-USB inputs.
*Not currently compatible with iPhone.

Universal USB Charger:

Works with many USB powered devices including MP3 players, GPS units, PDA units and Bluetooth headsets. Simply use one of our adapter tips or your existing portable device's USB charging cable.

Unfortunately, the charger actually caused my smart phone to lose its charge while I was cranking.

I bought the SOS Charger so I could recharge my phone in the event of a power failure, because I have only the AC powered charger that came with my phone. It turns out this little charger works well with my phone, beside being a nice LED flashlight. However, I suggest doing some research to make sure your phone can be charged from a 5 volt power supply, because that is the regulated voltage from the charger while you crank it. This little charger also comes with a number of cord adapters and probably will charge anything which charges from a standard USB port, including most MP3 players.

I was really impressed with this product. It's compact, comes with multiple adapters, is water-resistant and doesn't rely on batteries. After reading reviews on it, I was concerned it would be flimsy and break easily. However, I have not found that to be the case (so far at least). The only thing I have noticed is that I couldn't charge my cell phone very well when my phone was dead. My phone showed that it was charging, but it didn't charge enough to turn it back on before my arm got tired of cranking. However, I used it to charge my phone once when the battery was just low and it worked great at fully charging it. The flashlight is not as bright as I expected, but it's bright enough to be able to do things like change a flat tire at night. Also, the flashlight stays charged for a long time after cranking.

I would recommend storing this charger in a small bag or pouch so you can keep all the adapters (e.g. for different types of cell phones, GPS, etc.) together.

The body seems sturdy, as does the crank. The attachments to connect the device to phones and such are another story. I broke one just looking at it (ok, I was touching it too). I wasn't even trying to plug it in to anything, just looking it over when I got it. A little bit of force on the end of one of the cell phone adapters and the outer casing fell off and the wires came out.

Also, the description does say this, but note: Will not charge the iPhone. No matter how fast you crank.

The flashlight part is better. Three modes: 1 LED lit, 3 LEDs lit, and blinking. A little winding provides reasonable use of the flashlight - more than adequate for emergencies.

A note on LED lights: LEDs almost never burn out (way, way higher hour rating than incandescent lights). Probably less prine to break from dropping also. I don't understand why some high-end flashlights still use bulbs that can burn out or break. I've seen very nice flashlights with aircraft aluminum bodies, O-ring seals, and... an incandescent bulb, with a spare bulb in the handle. I probably wouldn't need that spare bulb if they just used an LED. And you'd have to have 10 spare bulbs (or more) to give the same life span as an LED.

In summary, I might recommend it as a flashlight that will never need batteries and uses LED "bulbs". Buying it to charge something in an emergency is a little more questionable. The output is limited enough that it will not charge all phones, and I expect emergency devices not to break so easily -- I don't want to have an emergency with my emergency tool.

This is a pretty nifty little flashlight, too bad I purchased it to recharge my phone. I was suspicious from the beginning because I didn't see how you could generate enough current turning such a tiny plastic handle. Turns out, you don't generate enough current to charge anything except the built in flashlight. Sure, you could sit and feverishly crank on the thing for an hour, and then have a friend crank it constantly while you tried to make one five minute call, but does that sound pleasant or practical to you? So it's a well built, hand crank powered flashlight, and a pathetic joke of a cell phone charger. Just figured I'd warn everyone so they knew what they'd actually end up with.

This flashlight is VERY well built. Very sturdy and dependable.

I also compared the crank charger to a couple others and find it to be a LOT more efficient than the others, which are very stiff and waste a lot of your effort as heat.

Bottom line, this product works and I'd definitely buy it again.

It is an okay flashlight, but forget about its charging a smart phone. Note: I have a DROID CHARGE.

Small, light weight, and with adapters that fit the several phones I had. This allowed us to make phone calls during a 3 day power outage in a remote vacation spot.

For small phones it charges quickly, (a few minutes of cranking for a few minutes of calling). But for big battery hungry smartphones is was less useful, 20 minutes of charging to bring them up; (The cranking was not difficult, just time consuming)

Also nice that it has LED lights (never be without a flashlight anymore, a little time of cranking allows a long time of LED light).

I'm taking this on every trip I go on.

I hated the long hikes back to my truck to charge my cell phone at least every other day or sooner so I decided there had to be a better solution! I looked at sevearl in solor chargers, hand crank or dynamos, and extra battery types.Sometimes being stuck in ones tent for days at a time due to bad weather I ruled out Solar and extra battery types weren't allways dependable either, so that left the hand crank models. I won't mention the models I didn't pick just that I picked the SOS Charger, it's well built compact dureable and will even take the occasional dunk in the water and not affect it's operation . It works in all climate conditions, and you can share it with everyone in camp because it comes with all the adapters to fit most all cell phones and portable devices . It will fit in your pocket but I found a ten container it fits in and I just carry it in my backpack!(SOS Charger ® Hand-Crank Emergency Cell Phone Charger with 3 LED Flashlight )
