4.0 out of 5 stars Unique Concept, the Kids Liked it., November 5, 2003

I bought this game for a long car trip and it worked like a charm. This is a tougher sound identification game for kids than others out there. The sounds are not obvious and kids have to think a little to try and decide what the sound might be. The sounds are introduced by a group of kids on the CDs. For instance, the kids on the CD present a sound a few times, then they start counting down so that the players have time to write their guesses down on the scoresheet. The sound is played 3 times. Each time a sound is played, the kids on the CD encourage the players to listen carefully and not be fooled. Two CDs and many, many rounds of sounds come with the game, so I am saving the second CD for the next car trip. I am guessing this would be a fun game at birthday parties.

5.0 out of 5 stars The kids like it, September 11, 2003

The only two commands I think I had to give my youngsters (eight and eleven) before setting them down to play this were: "SSSH! and LISTEN". Very little prodding was needed, and once the first Cd started playing they were captivated. The two voices (one boy and one girl) acting as the sound effects Presenters are adorable enough to make any parent melt like butter (or maybe I'm just a softie). Where can I send my kids to audition for the next set of CDs?

I purchased Soundscape for a 5-hour road trip. It turned out to be fun for the entire family. Yes, the countdown can be slightly annoying; however, nothing a simple lowering of the volume can't fix. Surprisingly, my 3-year-old seems to be better at the game than my 6-year-old. Even as adults, my husband and I aren't able to guess them all correctly...which makes it more fun. This game was a nice break from movie watching and is especially great because even the driver can participate.

We have both a seven year old daughter and an eight year old daughter. They truly enjoyed it. I thought that it would be "BORING" after the first clue, because it does repeat itself 3-4 times and then a ten second countdown (which the girls anticipated with each round)- but after the first round, I can easily understand the repetition. Some are not apparent so you really need to listen to it a few times and then the ten second count down allows the kids to write their answers down. A down fall is that some of the items are ridiculously ridiculous. The kids could never guess it, nor myself, but it kept them on their toes. After the two CD's are finished though, 15 rounds on each I believe, the game is literally over because they have heard all the noises and could have easily memorized them. So you really have fifteen rounds on each CD with five sounds in each round. If I could change something, I would add more sounds on each CD. but overall, two thumbs up.

I bought this for my kids 5,6, & 7 y/o. Two of the kids have sensory processing issues & I was thinking this would be good for them to play. I would not buy it for a child much older than 8 because the sounds are pretty easy to guess. However, it makes for a fun family activity to try to guess the sound. You are supposed to play where you write it down, but the kids who will find this challenging as a game will most likely not be able to write yet.
