Product Description

SPRI's DARD Combo (Dynamic Axial Resistance Device) develops ankle and lower-leg strength, stamina and stability to overcome muscular imbalances that contribute to shin splints. Accommodates all 1-Inch diameter weight plates. Resistance can be varied in small increments by changing the size of the plates commonly used for weight training with the adaptor. Moving the weight disc toward or away from the feet in any of the five preset levels also decreases or increases resistance. DARD now includes the Olympic Weight Plate adaptor kit. Weights not included.

I bought this because I'm currently working with a long distance runner that has lots of muscle imbalances and many injuries. This is helping her to balance out the tension in her lower legs and helping to relieve some of her plantar fasciitis. My gym, to be frank most gyms, don't have a machine or way to work out the anterior tibialis outside of the usual therapy resistance bands. Which are ok but if you need more resistance to build actual lower leg strength this is the way to go. It's a great little unit and you get quite a burn from using high reps with it. Get it if you are having trouble with plantar fasciitis or any other lower leg weakness. It helps a lot.

I bought my first one in 1995 after using one at the gym for awhile. It helped me to strengthen my shins and the front of my ankles. Combined with calf raises and ankle exercises using an elastic band, the DARD helped me recover from several twisted ankles. I probably used it for a year or two.

I just bought another one in 2012. I don't use it as regularly as before, but am planning on using it almost to daily to again strengthen my recovering ankles.

In reply to the person who could use it with Olympic weight, I think there is an attachment that should be included in the DARD. I haven't bought this product from Amazon, so I don't know for sure.

I had this product as a teenager when I was working on developing my vertical. Recently I started looking for this product again because it is simply the best thing I've ever found to train your tibialis anterior muscle (front of lower part of your leg). This is not a common piece of equipment, but I was happy to finally find this one here, almost identical to the one I had 15 years ago, without breaking my bank account.
