5.0 out of 5 stars Like my dog, its ugly but I love it anyway
Three things to consider in a yoga block: size, material, color. This thing is purple = ugly. The material is foam, and this block will still be around 1 million years after I die - for a more environmentally sound purchase try cork, for double the price, of course. Finally, I like the size of this block, most blocks are 3x5x9, this one is 4x6x9 which means that its...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beveled Edges, December 1, 2005
This review is from: SPRI Foam Yoga Block (Purple) (Sports)
If you are trying to decide between a wood or foam yoga block, I can highly recommend the foam blocks with beveled edges because they are very comfortable.

When you are pressing on the blocks, they are firm enough to withstand your body weight, but not overly firm so they make your hands hurt from the pressure.

Blocks tend to encourage proper form because they allow you to slowly work into poses and provide the needed support when you can't reach the floor in a pose. The lightweight blocks are easy to move from side to side and they can work as an extension of your arm.

There are many ways you can use these blocks and once I started to do the Yoga Step By step workouts/yoga practice sessions, I found I really did need to buy softer yoga blocks to try some of the more advanced positions.

The outer layer of this yoga block feels soft but it's solid. 4x6x9 is a good size. I think it's better than 3x5x9.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for tall and unflexible!, September 1, 2009

I purchased this yoga block for use with the p90x program. It works great! When I am not able to reach the floor during some of the challenging stretches, I use this yoga block to provide added support to allow me to get the full benefit of the workout. It is strong and durable. The three different sides provide an option on the amount of height available during your workout. Great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great yoga blocks, May 5, 2009

I'm inflexible so I bought two of these. They are great.

I'm overweight and I find these do not sink under my hands. But at the same time, they are not too hard on my hands. It gives in just enough and they are very comfortable to use.

I had another yoga block before - until my dog mistook it for a chew toy - and I definitely notice the difference in quality. It was smaller, I felt like I was damaging it under my hand pressure, and in the high position I'd accidentally knock it over and slip because they were too light.

I also wish we could choose the color, but the purple ain't so bad. It's just a basic purple and it could be worse :)

I have small hands - I swear a size 5 ring - but I don't find these are too large for me at all. In fact I love this size a LOT because it makes me feel so steady.

What can you say about a block of plastic? It works well for what it is intended to do, hold you from tipping over.

I like the size of this block. It's a little bit taller and wider than regular yoga blocks. Good quality & durable. Good size for men, also.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-made, but a bit too high for me, June 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SPRI Foam Yoga Block (Purple) (Sports)
I purchased this yoga block to assist me with some of the seated poses. It's taller than other blocks, and I now realize that I should have chosen a standard sized block. I'm tall (5 feet 8 inches), and thought that this block made sense -- but I am also a beginner at yoga and have found the extra height of the block to be a problem. I'm back to using my Yellow Pages phone book, which is not as tall (and less rigid) for the seated poses. I do think this block is very well-made, but just not for me at this point in my work.
