5.0 out of 5 stars Great How To Book, May 21, 2009

I am working on my Phd, so I have taken a lot of statistics. This book shows and explains many of the subtle selections needed to run SPSS effectively. In my opinion, SPSS users should go through this book's exercises and steps before taking intermediate or advanced statistics. The overall process will not only make more sense, but it will reduce the pain associated with trying to figure out what you did wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars 9th edition review, January 19, 2009

This review is from: SPSS for Windows Step by Step: A Simple Guide and Reference, 16.0 Update (9th Edition) (Paperback)
This series is among the most comprehensible and thorough of the "how to" for statistics in SPSS, and it's also written with a sense of humor. Basics as well as some of the more advanced techniques are covered. There are excellent written descriptions of how and when to use each type of analysis, written for easy comprehension for those at beginner to intermediate statistical skill levels. There are also example datasets and very helpful explanations of SPSS output. In addition, authors include helpful references for those interested in more advanced analyses. The point-and-click instructions are easy to follow. Parametric as well as non-parametric statistics are also covered - this text is VERY comprehensive. The only improvement I'd like to see in future additions (and I hope there will continue to be future additions with the inevitable future SPSS versions) would be to include complete syntax for analyses. This book is worth every penny! Carrie Petrucci, Ph.D.

This book isn't the greatest at explaining why but it does take you though how to do things step by step.
I got it on time.
