About the Author

In 1994, you could find Rick Morelan braving the frigid waters of the Bering Sea as an Alaska commercial fisherman. His computer skills were non-existent at the time, so you might figure such beginnings seemed unlikely to lead him down the path to SQL Server expertise at Microsoft. However, every computer expert in the world today woke up at some point in their life knowing nothing about computers. Making the change from fisherman seemed scary and took daily schooling at Catapult Software Training Institute. Rick got his lucky break in August 1995, working his first database job at Microsoft. Since that time, Rick has worked more than 10 years at Microsoft and has attained over 30 Microsoft technical certifications in applications, networking, databases and .NET development.

Books - T SQL 2008 and SQL Queries and SQL Architecture Basics

I have been lucky to have this series of books recommended to me. I searched for a quality uncomplicated guide to enable me to understand SQL Server and Joes 2 Pros is my Eureka moment. Clear explanations, clear examples and well explained that leaves me totally confident to start my new job. Their accompanying website has all the answer scripts and videos explanations for all required. As an aside, I contacted Joes to Pros asking a question. Wow - the author Rick Morelan personally emailed me clarifying my question and wishing me good luck in my training. Quality books, quality website, quality customer service that leaves me feeling that I count as a customer. Buy these books and sit the SQL Exam 70-433 with total confidence. A huge thanks to Rick and his awesome team at Joes 2 Pros.

By far this is the best MS SQL 2008 book series you will ever have the chance to read. A year ago I didn't have a clue when it came to SQL. I have now passed exam 70-433 for MS SQL 2008 db developer. Do your MS SQL career a favor and get fast tracked for success. The added benefit is how confident you will feel in a MS SQL job interview after mastering this book series.

When I discovered the series of Joes 2 Pros books, I told my friends that I couldn't put it down. My friends were laughing at me - "couldn't put it down?". Yes, in the past, my experiences were just like my friends - I had to force myself to read technical books.

The author is very good and talented at explaining those difficult technical concepts! His stories and analogies really make dry and abstract concepts come alive; they often give me the uh-ah moments.

Even the exercises are so interesting that they let me see some different facets of what I just learned from the chapter.

I have really enjoyed the reading and learning experiences.

I just finished book 3 and loved this one the most. The coverage of snapshots, how much space data takes to table partitions to working with dates. Great content and well delivered. Folks, if you need good SQL server material and own an e-reader, this is the series for you.

Onward to book 4 and I'll review that one in more detail.
