SRAM X9 Mountain Bike Trigger Shifter Set (9-Speed)

I replaced my Shimano XT Rapid-Fire shifters with these and replaced my XTR rear derailleur with a SRAM X9 rear derailleur on my 27-speed Specialized FSR XC. The difference is like night and day. The SRAM setup shifts so precisely and quietly. The only evidence of shifts is the increase or decrease in resistance when pedaling. There is no chain-slap, grinding or slipping.

I didn't know what a difference new high-end components would make in updating my vintage 1982 mountain bike! I reworked my 1982 Specialized Stump Jumper (the original model) with all new high-end components from SRAM and WOW! What a ride! Perfect, effortless shifting every time! Highly recommended!

I has used road style shifters and mountain twist style and had never used trigger style before. But I was building a recumbent bike and could not use the road style and didn't like the twist style so I took a chance on trigger shifters. After researching, I decided on the Sram because of the "1 to 1" ratio on the rear shifting. It work flawlessly and it is easy for me to shift up and down. I paired this with a Sram long cage X9 rear deraileur and a Sun front deraileur. It is working great on my recumbent bike.

The new X9 shifters worked as described. I had a set of X9 shifters from 2007. The problem I had was with the barrel adjusters. The threaded nipple kept breaking off and was not able to find a replacement despite numerous attempts. The new shifters have a beefier adjuster. I think SRAM should have a better method of acquiring parts rather than having to purchase entirely new shifters.

Upgraded from SRAM X5 shifters that came with bike. X9 are great. They are smooth, exact and easy to adjust and offer a little bling over lower models. Couldn't be happier. One caveat, make sure the X9's are model year 2011. Model numbers on Amazon were incorrect (part number listed was for model years several years back) but confirmed with seller (Outdoor Outfitters) they were 2011 models.

Have the x9 shifters and derailer and I must say it is amazing. The shifts are clean and crisp and are accurate and on target every time. A must buy!

Crisp, light, and easy to install. There's very little to complain about! However, changing the cables can be tricky, and don't ever remove the bottom cover (two small philips head screws) 'cause you'll never get it to seat right again. Comparable to Shimano XT.
