Just replaced my SRAM 7 speed cassette (this model) with the same part and it was easy to install on my mountain bike. The old one wore out after about 1300 miles due to my own fault - letting the chain collect dirt, not keeping the chain clean, the chain wearing out and wearing out my cassette. The nice thing about this cassette is the price. Can't beat it for money you can't beat it.

When I bought my Trek Navigator 2.0, I had no clue about freewheels and freehubs. All I knew was the bike was comfortable and I assumed it would be much better quality than a Walmart special bike. I was wrong and after about 600 miles, the freewheel gave way. It was replaced under warranty, but the bike shop said once the warranty was up, I'd have to pay out of pocket if it happened again. This is no good as I'm on pace to ride 1200 miles a year and they say the repair would cost me $60 each time to replace it. Luckily I found a guy selling his 5 month old Trek 3.0 wheels on Craigslist that have a freehub instead of a freewheel. I bought this SRAM cassette, a Park lockring removal tool, a 7 speed spacer, and made my own chain whip. I've put on 500 miles on this cassette and haven't had any issues at all.

Got tired of having 9 speeds that were more trouble than a spoiled woman so I lost them and installed this. Much better. Shifts are much more confident and fast. Why do we need 27 speeds, I mean really?

I reconditioned my mom's old Trek 820. She has put a zillion miles on it over the last 12-15 years (I don't remember how long she's had it). It's the 3rd bike in her rotation, but it still sees quite a lot of use on a crushed limestone trail. She was always so pleased with how well it worked that she never had it tuned up believing that it might come out worse! Well, this summer I decided that I'd go against her wishes and give it a good tuneup.
The chain was loooong gone. It was clean and lubed, but had stretched *way* out over the years (not to mention the dusty grime in the bearings and between the cogs and chainrings). This, of course, took out the cassette. The old one was a Shimano 28 - 12 (or maybe 11, I don't remember exactly). This cassette has slightly lower gearing (4th is the same on both), but I think she'll manage with that. The 4 extra teeth on the big cog were no problem for the derailleur. I recently pulled *my* 820 out of storage to recondition it and turn it into a commuter/grocery getter. I traded out the small mtn crankset with a retired SRAM Rival 52-39 crank and BB. I think that I'm going to grab one of these cassettes for it, too, to give me some lower gears on the bottom end. For what it's worth, I also put a GS cage 105 rear der on the 820, too, and it handled 52:32 just fine when I put the wheel from my mom's bike on it. Shimano says 28 is the max, but I think they leave a buffer just to be safe.

When arrived it looked good but once installed and spun I noticed the last 4 gears weren't very true. It should work fine for commuting and occasional trail rides but definitely not for the daily pounding.

Received in mail and I could have slapped myself for not paying an extra $5 for the Shimano Acera cassette. Out of the package, I noticed that several teeth are crooked and misshaped and that half of the sprockets don't even spin true. I'm extremely disappointed in the quality and will be returning this asap. Word of advice, pay a few extra dollars and get Shimano rather than this. |
