5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my wide gear range on my recumbent bike
I got this because I needed a wide range on my recumbent bike. I have a 44-33-22 crankset and a 11-34 cassette and after research, the large difference (44-22) + (34 - 11) = 45 means I needed a long cage. I paired this up with x-9 trigger shifters and it is all working flawlessly on my recumbent bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars No good choices
My most recent (long cage) SRAM x9 rear deraileur was quickly destroyed when I failed to notice the chain had somehow got wrapped around the small chain ring. There is no second chance with that kind of mistake since the cage is just a piece of stamped metal - cheap and light. The owner of the bike shop I use showed me an old style x9 he had in the parts bin. Way more...

5.0 out of 5 stars SRAM X9 Derailleur, February 5, 2011
By

I have this derailleur on four different bikes and I have had no problems whatsoever. I use a long cage when running 3 chainrings and a mid cage with one or two chainrings. Once you set it up and adjust it....you're done. Very minimal maintenance, durable, and consistent shifting.

Shifts as well as the X0 for a lot less money. Easily the best value in Mountain Bike Rear Derailleurs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really impressed with this derailleur, June 18, 2011
This review is from: SRAM X.9 Rear Bicycle Derailleur (Misc.)
I had a Shimano XTR with a cracked body on my Cannondale mountain bike. Since I now use this bike for non-competitive recreational rides, I was looking for a unit with an element of quality without going overboard. I selected the SRAM x.9. I didn't think much of it at first, since I was biased to Shimano, but after installing the SRAM X.9, I found that the adjustment was the easiest I've ever experienced and the shifting is precise, crisp and definitive. I also installed a SRAM X.9 hi-mount front derailleur and SRAM trigger shifters. I'm unexpectedly impressed with SRAM. I'm still running Shimano on my road bike, but if I ever need to replace the derailleurs on it, I just may thing about going to SRAM for this bike as well.

i replaced a broken X0 with this X9 and saved over $100. it works like a charm, doesn't skip or ghost-shifts. i've owned another X9 for several years and have never had a problem. the 1-1 shifting is better, imo, than the 2-1 of shimano derailleus. i shopped around for best prices and amazon, as usual, won with no shipping!

Way more heft. The cage was made as a casting. Otherwise, the x9 is a very precise shifter if properly adjusted. And too its credit, it handles well the 11 foot of chain on my long wheel base recumbent. You might say it works great until it suddenly doesn't work at all. I asked the shop owner if I might get better reliability if I changed over to Shimano parts. He said they're crap too. My advice - keep a new one handy because you will need it sooner or later if you're a serious rider.

5.0 out of 5 stars SRAM products are hard to beat, January 26, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The X.9 series is a great mid-range component gruppo. I had bashed up my old X9 in a crash and decided to get a new one. While not the least expensive, I think it really out-performs the X5 series and just as good as X.0 series except a few grams heavier. If I were to upgrade, I think I would just go Red series.

The Derailleur works wonderfully with the SRAM x9 shifter. Be aware that it is indexed at 1:1 and other shifters like Shimano probably aren't going to work. Besides, who wants different gruppos? The shifting is as tight and accurate as it can be. I know EXACTLY what gear I am in at all times and the flow across the gears is flawless. Adjustments are also straight forward and even a beginner could adjust this component with a little time and patience.

Just make sure you get the correct cage. I have a Bacchetta Corsa and require a long cage due to chain length.

2nd highest end derailleur from sram, solid piece, shifts clean, installs easily, great value. only complaint is new routing to pinch the cable off. seems to almost interfere with chainline, but ok so far.

The sram X9 mountain bike rear derailleur works excellent, high precision and I live in a place in México(Coatepec Ver) that has high humidity, rainy all the year, and the sram works beautiful.
