4.0 out of 5 stars SRS, September 24, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: SRS: Street Racing Syndicate (Video Game)
Wow, you people aren't too bright. SRS obviously didn't include Honda and Acura for the soul reason of Honda or Acura not allowing them to. You have to have an agreement with the company before you put their product in a video game.. maybe they wanted too much money or didn't like the way the vehicles were portrayed in the game.. or maybe they sold rights to NFS. Ever think of things like that? Naw, too busy busting on the creators who are trying to make a fun game for street racing enthusiasts. As for for models, they are a key feature to the import racing world. Models are all over the pages of import magazines.. so stop trying to make it look like a cheap way of getting people to buy it. SRS = great game.. leave it alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tire Smoking Blast, September 10, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: SRS: Street Racing Syndicate (Video Game)
A lot of people are comparing this game to Need for Speed Underground which is the first, and greatest mistake. NFSU is completely arcade, take any car, throw in a huge engine, some Nitrous some new tires and it is a dream to drive and gollygee, what the heck a Mazda Miata can outperform a Nissan Skyline! Sounds realistic!

Yeah right.

Street Racing Syndicate is simply put the most realistic racing game that I have played. In many ways it surpasses the bench mark of the genre Grand Turismo series. Taking a Nissan 350z, throwing in the appropraite electronic parts, Greddy Intercooler and turbo will get you a whopping 848 bhp and 766 lb/ft of torque. It will also get you spinning out instead of going straight, slamming into everything in sight and around the corner, like a newspaper stand, street light and even the 18 wheeler that failed to get out of the way. In fact, equipping the car with too much power, making a poor suspension choice, or ignoring it all together will get the hilarious result of going into a corner getting on the throttle after neatly clipping the apex and then getting a nice rollover and damaging the car beyond belief, and you will be paying for damage both in terms of performance and in money.

In graphics it does look stunning, although I do not buy the whole shiny street thing as all the streets that I have ever driven on are dull gray except when covered with ice. The sound is not THX and putting on a JIIC exhaust will not change the sound.

However any flaws in the game are blown away by this one simple fact: Buy any car in the game and drive it. It requires thinking about every corner, gear change and curb before entering the corner or you will spin out, smash into something and lose the race. Careful attention must be paid to what parts you install on the car as well. Selecting the wrong exhaust system means you won't get as much power as you could get.

The best thing about this game is that it is focused on racing in a way that no other game, except Grand Turismo, does. There are not a billion ways to make your car look "cool", nor are there a billion ways to cheat physics. You have to know how to drive and you have to know the difference between BF Goodrich and Yokohama tires, learn fast or lose. The cars handle the same in Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec on simulation tires as they do in SRS. Simply put, this is the game to have until GT4 comes out. Everything else is just fantasy make believe for people that don't love to drive and work on cars. As my friend always says, Ea makes games for ricers and SRS is for Racers.

This game is supposed to be fun, not complicated. I mean how serious could they be if you can pimp your own girls and crap like that. The racing end of it doesn't compare to NFSU but it has much more. One thing is they have actual cities which is one thing I hated about NFSU which just had some random scenery. Also the performance upgrades are way better, with much more options. You can drive around the city looking for races and can also get busted by the cops which I thought was tight and creative. Unlike other reviewers I thought it was a good thing that there was no hondas or acuras. Not because I hate them since I have an Acura Integra myself. But they are the most common modified imports on the street so I was glad to see other cars. Such as the Lexus IS 300 which I was hoping to see on a racing game. All in all I think you should get this ig you just want to have fun with it and not take it so seriously like other people. I definitley recommend it.
